The movie HIGH RISK is a good movie. But don't buy a copy of theDVD. It is the worst looking copy of a film on DVD I have ever seen. The film looks totally washed out and blury...

a true buried treasure for the action/adventure afficiando,

This review is from: High Risk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Released in 1981 HIGH RISK suffered the "back of the bus" treatment while higher profile adventure epics like DRAGONSLAYER, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, CLASH OF THE TITANS, and an obscure little flick called RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK took the best seats with reviewers and moviegoers. And it's a bloody shame because this "DELIVERANCE for chuckles" features a crackerjack cast (James Brolin, Cleavon Little, Chick Venera, Lindsay Wagner, Bruce Davison, Anthony Quinn, James Coburn and Ernest Borgnine) all at the top of their game; a tight plot and swift sure-handed direction by Stewart Rafill (THE PHILADELPIA EXPERIMENT); a fast paced Latin-Jazz flavored score by Mark Snow (THE X-FILES); and a cheerful glee in toying with every action/adventure movie cliche' in the book ("what would really happen if you tried to knock someone out with the butt of pistol" - hilarious. The only drawback is in the VHS tape itself - most available versions are recorded in the LP mode and the colors aren't as crisp as they should be. But if you can find a used SP version or you've got to have a grade-A action adventure fix ... you can't do much better.

If You Want Action..Then This Is The Movie!,
By Darrick Beekman (Peebles, OH) - See all my reviews

This has got to be one of the best action movies I have ever seen. Once the action starts it doesn't stop! It will keep you on the edge of your seat. Drug Smugglers parachute into South America to rip off drug dealers but run into all kinds of trouble!! Getting back out was not an easy task for them. Good acting by James Brolin, Cleavon Little, James Colburn, Lindsay Wagner and others. This movie will definately leave all action movie lovers pleased! Well worth the price!

This is a movie I saw when it was first released. The plot is so outragious that it might be a true or near true story. I have a life
long friend in Cali Columbia and all he ever mentioned about the life was incorporated into this movie. This also includes the depiction of the roving bands of horse riding bandits. Next to Zorba this is most likely Anthony Quinn's most interesting and hilarious portrayal as the bandit leader but all performances are strong. This is a sleeper and a very good addition to a home collection. RVD

OK movie but crummy DVD,
This review is from: High Risk (DVD)
I liked the movie but this has got to be the worst DVD transfer I have seen, and that's saying something. I have the 2002 BCI Eclipse release, UPC 8736444689. It looks like somebody had a worn out VHS tape version they decided to copy to DVD. It' s a blurry full screen presentation. The colors are all washed out and there are numerous glitches in the video. The sound is mono, and limited in bandwidth. Not a pretty sight (or sound).

Lindsay Wagner Got Ripped Off,
By
This review is from: High Risk (DVD)
This picture opened in theaters around the country in May of 1981 starring James Brolin as Steve, Anthony Quinn as Marino, The Beautiful Lindsay Wagner as Olivia, James Coburn as Serrano and Ernest Borgine as Clint. This movie is about four Americans that are broke and tired of being poor Steve is the ring leader and gets the other three guys to tell there wives and girl friends that there going on a fishing trip. So they put the usually things in Steve's truck like sleep bags, fishing poles, nets, and tackle boxes. So Steve and his three friends head down the road until they come to and open field and stops. Along comes Clint who's a side winder who deals in anything from rifles, guns, knifes, machine guns and anything else you can use if you're going to drop in on someone. When Steve's three friends find out what kind of fire power there going to need they start to have second thoughts. Steve talks them out of leaving and so they sit and wait until the plane arrives. The plane that there waiting for is going to take them to Mexico where a man named Serrano lives who has millions of dollars in his safe with high walls and guards to watch the place. So Steve and friends hold up outside of the walls where Serrano hides waiting for the right moment to attack the place. One of Steve's friends has a white female poodle that they lower over the wall to attract the guard dogs in which it does. So the men go over the walls, sneak in the building, downstairs to where the safe is only to found out that the combination was changed. So Steve and another man go up stairs to get Serrano to bring him down to open the safe. Steve and his men get the money but while on there way out they get into s shootout not only with Serrano army but the Mexican Army also and end up in a Mexican Bull Ring with a real live bull. As the men are on the run two of them get caught while Steve and another get away. The two that where caught ended up in one of Serrano cells. Along comes Olivia who has been in one of Serrano cells for along time. Meanwhile Steve and the man that's with him get caught up by a bunch of bandits. Along comes Marino who's a poor Mexican along with there people who track Steve down and take there money. Will Steve and the man survive these Bandits? What about the two men that is in Serrano custody? What happens to Olivia and does she ever get out of Serrano cuffs? Some thoughts of my own on this movie. I thoughts this was a good movie because it did have adventure, action and drama. I bought this movie because Lindsay Wagner was in it. I wasn't disappointed with here acting or how beautiful she is, I was disappointed that it took almost 30 minutes before we saw her. Her talents were wasted in this movie and someone that looks like she does she be the leading actress. On Lindsay Wagner I give her 10 weasel stars because I could watch her all day. The movie itself I give 7 weasel stars

Saw this movie many years ago, and bought a copy to give it another watch.
So much for quality. The manufacturer appeared to have just taken an old copy of the film and slapped it on a DVD. The colors were faded and the sound track was fuzzy--almost garbled. And to make matters worse, the film wasn't as good as I had remembered, but if it was a favorite, the poor quality of reproduction makes it worthless.

Sort of dumb classic...bonditos rob bonditos,

The drug load gets robbed by 4 semi-crazy, nothing to lose,
North Americans. They get either captured by the soldiers or the bonditos. 5 million dollars in back packs and the little white guard dog bait becomes strange kind of dreadful comedy of error:while a good time wasn't had by all there was a break out comedy and much shooting away from a dreadful silly ending.

Good Action for an older movie. Funny scenes, Anthony Quinn is great as a mexican bandit. It's about a group of ordinary guys who venture to mexico to steal drug money from a drug lord. Not believable but fun to watch.
