5.0 out of 5 stars Yoh comes out of his shell
This is my favorite volume so far in the series because Yoh is forced to come out of his shell and fight for his relationship with Haruna. First, he is elected captain of the White Team in the school sports competition and has to stand up in front of all the other students and lead the cheers -- which is a pretty scary proposal for someone who has difficulty expressing...

I felt that this volume wasn't up to standard with the rest of the series. There were some funny moments, but the overall plot was kind of boring and slow. It didn't feel like the story progressed enough for a whole volume. Also, Asaoka's kind of unlikable in this volume, although he wasn't out of character.

"High School Debut" does tend to vary a little in story quality. There have been other slow patches, but it's always picked back up. Let's hope volume 10 picks up the slack.

This is my favorite volume so far in the series because Yoh is forced to come out of his shell and fight for his relationship with Haruna. First, he is elected captain of the White Team in the school sports competition and has to stand up in front of all the other students and lead the cheers -- which is a pretty scary proposal for someone who has difficulty expressing himself. He does an amazing job and looks really fabulous, definitely one of the high points in the series for me. He has to put in lots of extra hours after school to practice, leaving Haruna alone...until Asaoka takes advantage of the situation to start spending more time with her. Finally things come to a head when Asaoka tells Yoh he has feelings for Haruna and wants to tell her, and they end up with a challenge -- if Yoh's team wins, Asaoka has to keep quiet. Yoh will have to pull out all the stops to defend his relationship with Haruna. Does his team win? You'll have to read volume 10 to find out!
