I bought this book because it reminded me of grammar lessons we had in India with this as our text book. The red covered Wren & Martin was a classic for English-medium school children - so seeing it on Amazon was a pleasant surprise and nostalgic.

The book actually came in a brown paper cover with doodles from the prior owner (I bought it used) so it added to the nostalgia :) I recommend this book for any true English grammar fan!!

This is the ultimate book for a grammar Nazi. It must have been written in the late 19th century or the early 20th century. Malcolm Muggeridge, the British author once said, "The last Englishman will be an Indian". The fact that this book is still used as the standard textbook for English grammar shows us why. It does get a tad ridiculous but I would like to congratulate Messrs. Wren and Martin for a pretty good book.

This book is not meant for American high school students. It was developed for students in India. It is not suitable for use in the USA. I purchased it because I am teaching English to a pair of home-schooled American students and hoped to find a decent curriculum for them. (I am extremely experienced in teaching college freshman and sophomore students but not high school kids). Nowhere in the seller's description was the book's country of origin made clear.

This book isnt just for ESL students. It's also a perfect guide for those struggling with understanding and utilizing grammar as we know it. The lessons are very straightforward. For someone who has been out of school for years. I could understand every single point the author was trying to convey.

Just a bit of warning buy the "Key to high school grammar and composition" with this. The main books exercises are pretty useless without the key. Why? It does not contain any answer keys and at just $2.00 or some dollars you cant go wrong.

There is also something unique about the texture of the pages. It reminds me of the sort of paper used in college dictionaries and the bible. The book itself is relatively thin, but dont let that fool you. For such a small book it more than makes up for it with its comprehensive content.

This is an excellent source for any question concerning grammar. I got it to help a 15-year-old from Romania learn English. However, I won't use it as I had hoped, because of the format. For one thing, I was looking for a workbook type of material that she could write in. This book, with its very small type, is not suitable for that. I almost sent it back, but decided to keep it for the excellent resource that it is. It covers so much in English usage that I want it for myself, if not for her. I have ordered two other books for her in which she can write. They are good, also, but not nearly as comprehensive as the Wren book.
