Could be better,
By Justine Lopez (San Jose, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From High School to Med. School : The definitive guide to accelerated medical programs (Paperback)
I am a junior in high school and when I found about the book From High School to Med. School I was really excited. I have been waiting for a book to come out like this for a long time. However I still needed more info to be fully informed. My counselor also presented me with The High School Doctor by Koneru,Wang, and Arora. This book helped me more on what I was looking for and helped me design a better plan for next few years left of school. I congratulate both books.

Lacks Detail,

Although well written, this book didn't contain any of the specific information about accelerated medical programs that I was looking for. For example, do I have to take the MCAT at Brown University? How is the social life at Alabama? What are the minimum requirements for each program? Which programs accept out of state students? "The High School Doctor" by Koneru, Wang, and Arora answered all of these questions and more. However, I still recommend "From High School to Med School" to purchase as a supplementary source. It was well written.

I thought the book was excellent when it came to the overall process of the accelerated medical programs, however the individual program descriptions were extremely week. I could have gotton the same info out of the AMA website. I would recommend another book.

Not bad,

As a prospective possible accelerated medical school applicant next year, I found this book to be very helpful in finding out what programs were out there and information on how to contact each individual school or program. However, I wished that the authors went into more detail with regards to campus life on and off campus at each college or university. This type of information could have been helpful for me in narrowing down which schools I should consider applying for next year. Unfortunately, I had to find other books or resources to get this sort of information.

Changed my life!,

I couldn't find any information about accelerated medical programs anywhere - until I found this book. It put's any other pre-med book to shame, and in my opinion, sets a new standard. It tells you EVERYTHING! And the contributions are awesome! They even have the world's youngest doctor in it and real research from journals.I've never seen a list of the schools that offer med. progams anywhere, and even my guidance counselor had no clue! But From High. School to Med. School has a complete list and tells about each one and even ranks them for me. I think that every school and every student should have a copy. The topics are very broad. My sister is even using it for general tips on packing for college. The interview tips are unbeatable, as well as the information on high school activities and summer programs. I'm also going to find the sections on all my college sciences courses very useful, especially orgo! It even tells me about fitting in and how to balance my studies with my social life. If you are a high school student who wants to secure their future, then you need to get this book today. I can't believe that I have what it takes to get into med. school from high school! I've seen in the authors featured in media where they say that if you let this option pass you by, you're likely to regret later.. and they're right!

I bought this book a few months back, and it's great. I heard about these fast track medical programs from my friends and they recommended this book. I especially liked the candidate profiles, application timeline, and easy to read format. It's definitely going to be my source when I apply to colleges next year. Though it says medical programs, much of the info in this book can be used for other stuff. One of my best academic investements.

There is a better book available,

I own both "The High School Doctor" and "From High School to Med School". I definitely endorse "The High School Doctor" from Koneru, Arora, and Wang. The book was started 5 years ago and has been completed by physicians who have already finished the path to medicine. I trust their judgement, since I have just been accepted into Northwestern for its 7 year accelerated medical program (HPME). Why not buy the best available?

This was a great book. I didn't know these programs existed till i stumbled across the website and ordered it from acceleratedmed. It provides info on how to prepare your application, write the essay, and interview at the medical schools. The best part about the book is that it provides information you can use for regular college admissions. Since it's written by students, it's very easy to read and understand. My only regret is that I didn't order it earlier.

Best guidebook I've bought!,
By Aditi Patel (Somerset, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From High School to Med. School : The definitive guide to accelerated medical programs (Paperback)
I'm a high school jr. and I've bought several books on writing college essays, how to interview, and things like that. This book is by far the best guidebook on the college application process and it has the added angle of medical programs. This book far surpassed my expectations because I only bought it to read about medical programs. To my surprise, I found several chapters on essential items like taking your SATs, commuting vs. dorming, and even laundry tips! Other guidebooks are too general or too specific. This is complete from cover to cover.

This is an excellent book and well worth the money. Any ambitious high schooler out there with their minds set on medicine will find this a great asset to them. I just recently purchased the book and I've found it to be very well written and very helpful. Not everyone out there knows about accelerated medical programs, so this book is one of a kind and really puts all the information you could want, in one convenient guide. Afterall, this is a book written by programmers for prospective programmers! What more can you ask for! I highly recommend this to any high schooler interested in medicine...you owe it to yourself to buy this book!
