Book Description

December 29, 2009
A "youth-recovery" plan that's as fast as it is effective, The High School Reunion Diet is a pure foods program designed to have you looking slimmer, healthier, and younger in just thirty days.

When people come in to see acclaimed dermatologist and internist Dr. David Colbert in the hope of looking younger, he often sends them home with a diet. Yes, there are many modern dermatology treatments that improve your skin and take years off your appearance, but the doctor knows nothing works better (or faster) than the right foods.

Whether you want to lose a few pounds or a few years, The High School Reunion Diet is for you. Dr. Colbert begins with a quick "reeducation" on how certain foods fuel your body. You'll learn why sugar-saturated processed foods slow you down and make you appear old, and how you can combat the effects of age with the health and beauty secrets of smart carbs, A+ fats, intelligent fiber, and star proteins.

Then it's time to start eating. Here's how the diet works: You replace over-sugared, nutritionally empty packaged foods and sweetened drinks with "True Food" -- brilliant-colored vegetables, whole fruits, nutritious nuts, lean meat, and a variety of other flavorful items that are easily accessible, pure, and unprocessed. You cook with great fats like olive oil, and use antioxidant-rich spices that can both beautify skin and protect health. Soon the aging effects of sugar will begin to reverse, just as the benefits of whole nutrients begin to multiply. Dull skin, hair, and eyes will brighten. In thirty days, you'll experience the entire range of benefits -- from increased energy and heightened mental acuity to weight loss -- that will have you on the road to lifelong good habits and health.

Featuring a variety of options for everyday meals, The High School Reunion Diet also includes sample recipes destined to become household staples, rang-ing from frittatas and smoothies to fresh salads and sides, delicious fish and even sirloin entrees, as well as a long list of tasty snacks. Having already earned the trust of New York and Hollywood's media, fashion, and film elite, Dr. Colbert brings to your kitchen table his extensive knowledge of attaining -- and sustaining -- health, beauty, and youth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lose 20 years in 30 days? You've got me standing at attention, January 11, 2010
By
This review is from: The High School Reunion Diet: Lose 20 Years in 30 Days (Hardcover)
And this book did not fail to maintain my attention throughout.

I am way past my high school reunion days but, hey, I'm a baby boomer and I want to look as close to my youth as is humanly possible. Diet books tend to make my eyes glaze. But, Dr. Colbet is funny! This book made me laugh, while coercing me to assess my current attitude toward what I was putting in my mouth. And it wasn't pretty.

Dr. Colbert's reco for eating makes just plain common sense: healthier eating -- and a healthier attitude -- is slowly starting to become a way of life. I've begun to evaluate what I'm putting in my mouth throughout the day. No, I'm not hungry. No, I'm not deprived.

Having just bought the book the day after Christmas, I'm only on my third week. But I swear: I feel better, I look better. Give it a try!

This review is from: The High School Reunion Diet: Lose 20 Years in 30 Days (Hardcover)
Even if you've read the diet books (Atkins / South Beach / Skinny Bitch), the medical books (Weill / Gary Taubes) and the health and wellness books (Weill / Micheals) you will appreciate and learn from this clearly written, direct approach to healthful eating.

Colbert illustrates his opinions and enables the reader to understand the weight of each food choice you make. By making simple choices for more healthful options -- you will in fact lose weight and enhance the vitality of your skin and step. Without sacrificing the joy of eating, entertaining, or fine dining - you can maintain your commitment to healthful eating with the excellent advice and information in High School Reunion Diet.

This book is very encouraging, with amazing, realistic, and easy-to-follow advice. What is good to know is that the writer is a leading dermatologist and doctor, so that the guidance and instructions are at all times sound, reliable, based on science.
I've thrown out all my cookie jars and chocolate bars, and look forward to an exciting "Class of 1980" reunion.
