High Drama,

This review is from: High Seas Murder: A Lindy Haggerty Mystery (Linda Haggerty Mysteries) (Paperback)
The theatrical setting and back stage drama are the things which drew me to this series. This, the second book in the Lindy Haggerty Mystery series, certainly does not disappoint. Ms Freydont's characters are three dimensional and colorfully drawn. Here she combines, classical dancers, opera singers, cabaret performers and a rock star to achieve a fascinating group of victims and suspects. The plot has many twists and turns. The cruise ship is surrounded by a school of red herring. She mixes information about the art form skillfully with murder and soap opera. I highly recommend this book to mystery and theater lovers alike.

This review is from: High Seas Murder: A Lindy Haggerty Mystery (Hardcover)
This is quite a good follow up mystery. The Jeremy Ashe Dance Company have agreed to do a working tour abroad a luxury cruise bound for the Carribean. High wheeling music producer, Cameron Tyler, has come with the concept of putting together the "cultured" rich with a few stars from the world of opera and dance. Always on the look out for more money, Jeremy Ashe has agreed to commit his dance company to the cruise. Rehersal director, Lindy Haggerty, is not looking forward to this working tour as her memory of cruise ships are not of the best. And it isn't too long before she's proved right. First a poisonous music critic literally drops down dead at her feet; then the lecherous cabaret singer drowns under suspicious circumstances. And no one seems to want to discover what's going on! But when an innocent ship steward is accussed of theft and looks likely to be fitted up for murder, Lindy and company spring into action to clear his name.As an avid mystery reader, I found this novel entertaining but a little disconcerting. Much of the book seemed to deal with Lindy's strange attraction for the rock star, David Beck; and whether he had a drug habit or not. The strange behaviour of those around her were sidelined until the last quarter of the book when the investigation into the murders took flight. Also her obsession with her weight (size eight and not a six) was a little tiring. I know that this is important to dancers but when it was mentioned over and over again... I felt like screaming. But I still enjoyed the mystery.

Lindy Haggerty, the retired dancer just wants to have a diversion in her boring life as an empty nester. When she joins up with the Jeremy Ash troup again for a cruise gig, she becomes wrapped up in sleuthing about a few murders instead of dancing into paradise. Shelley Fredont has done it again. The twists and turns of her characters behaviors have us wondering where we will end up next! Sign me up for the next cruise with Lindy and her Gang!
