5.0 out of 5 stars High Sierra 26-Inch Drop-Bottom Wheeled Duffel
Great product for the occasional traveler. The reason that I bought this one is because they didn't have a 30-inch Drop-Bottom wheeled duffel and "some airlines" now consider the 32-inch as "oversided" by 1 1/2 inches. Aren't the airlines wonderful with their new restrictions, wonderful flight attendants and 'EXTRA CHARGES'? Still plenty of room in the 26 inch for a...

Well, this unit came and I was very happy with its looks. It looked rugged, with way more storage space than I ever need. But it isn't durable.

Well, this unit came and I was very happy with its looks. It looked rugged, with way more storage space than I ever need. But it isn't durable.

Pros: tons of storage. Great color selections, nice handle and grip. Several chambers for storage. Makes backpack, several handles, expands.

Cons: 1st leg of my trip the wheels busted. Checked it out, the wheel structure is mounted to a very thin plastic frame inside the case. This will never stand up. No metal in the frame at all on mine. All cheap brittle plastic.

Over all, way too much money for wal-mart quality....

I will be sending this back. I do not recommend getting this. Maybe the smaller one is better???

Aren't the airlines wonderful with their new restrictions, wonderful flight attendants and 'EXTRA CHARGES'? Still plenty of room in the 26 inch for a 10-day trip which includes an Alaskan cruise. Very well made and I HIGHLY recommend High Sierra Products.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing all-in-one bag for all occasions, December 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I first bought this model a year ago during my business trip to US from Russia.

I used it to bring lots of stuff back home and it sustained rough airport handling without any problems that you would usually expect, especially from hard surface luggage cases. This bag is made of very durable yet flexible fabric and has a lot of features you won't find in other bags, even for a higher price.

It has a drop-bottom, which allows even more stuff to be packed into it.

It has a special removable separator between the two compartments, which is also extremely useful.

It has built-in wheels that are harder to get broken due to rough handling than those rollers.

It has this rather spacious top pocket, where I usually pack my shoes. I come into a

Russian airport wearing rough weather boots, then I just take out of that pocket a pair of my Adidas climacool shoes, put my boots back into that pocket and go into the plane wearing comfortable Adis.

And in case there happen a staircase without an accompanying elevator/escalator (which happens in Russia a lot), this bag has these quite heavy-duty straps to use it as a backpack.

This bag survived a trip to Russia and back, it also survived a number of trips within Russia, and still looks almost like new.

I liked it so much that this year I decided to buy another one to have two of them in

case I go anywhere with my family and we have lots of stuff to carry. Honestly, I also

bought a couple of smaller ATQ and AT.Go bags by High Sierra as I personally find them

amazing and at a very affordable price (you rarely can find these bags at MSRP, they are always "on sale" :) )

In a few words, I HIGHLY recommend this brand and this particular model especially.

2.0 out of 5 stars do not recommend this for air travel, July 21, 2010
It expands nicely. I bought it because I thought the option to carry as a backpack was handy. This might be good for camping or road travel. I wouldn't recommend it for air travel. Because the wheels are smaller, it's harder to maneuver. After just one plane flight as a carry on, on a smaller plane, where they have to toss it into the baggage area below because it's too big for overhead, the fabric was torn on the corners. Also, without expanding it, if you're the type to who tends to stuff your luggage, you'll have a hard time getting this into the overhead compartment even then due to it's odd duffel like shape. I was only able to put this into the overhead compartment of the larger jumbo jets, such as those for international flights. I would not recommend this for air travel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wheels are Worthless, April 8, 2011
I took this on a two month backpacking trip through Europe and about halfway through the trip one of the wheels was damaged and would no longer roll. It was impossible to fix considering the wheel is embedded in a plastic track. My friend I was traveling with had a bag where the wheel were exposed to the exterior and she had no issues. It's basically a poor design on this bad. High Sierra makes other bags of a similar quality with a more effective and durable wheel design. I would not recommend this bad for anything other than you basic airline traveling. It definitely can't handle Europe's cobblestone.
