5.0 out of 5 stars ver satisfied
I ordered two bags to take a trip flying (3 plane changes) then sailing for 7 days. The bags held up great and were easier to stow on the boat than traditional luggage. The bottom compartment kept my clothes as straight as any other luggage. I would buy more.

3.0 out of 5 stars This bag didn't travel well
I was so excited when I got this bag in time for a recent ski trip to Europe. I like the size of the bag and the different compartments it has. It was great for two people to pack ski boots, helmets and clothes. Unfortunately upon my return, my bag had lost a zipper and I found a big hole on one of the side compartments. 5.0 out of 5 stars Very convenient for all types of travel, September 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I own three of these bags now (two 36" and one 30"), and I just returned from a long trip where I used them all. I do a fair amount of camping in Alaska, where I often need to take a commercial airline flight, transfer to a small bush or float plane, and finally carry my gear for up to a couple of miles and over wet or rocky terrain. Backpacks, wheeled luggage, and duffle bags all have their limitations for one or more of these modes of travel, and after a miscalculation on what to carry last year I started a search for a bag that would combine the best features of all three. This is it! It's the maximum size allowable as standard checked luggage, and it rolls very easy on flat ground. It opens flat like a duffle bag, and flips open to reveal another large compartment below. It also has a pocket that contains two shoulder straps that are adequate for occassional use. I wouldn't choose this bag for a 40 mile hike, but for routine and non-so-routine travel, it's great. It's fine as a suitcase, and better than a wheeled duffle. It's about the size of a large backpack, so my tent, sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, and clothes can usually fit in one bag. Then I use another for other camp gear. The fabric is very durable, and after several arduous field trips I haven't had any trouble with the zippers. The smooth interior liner in the side pockets isn't bulletproof, but seems about typical for suitcase liners. If I needed another bag right now, this is what I'd buy again.

I don't know what caused the big hole on the bag. I know baggage handlers can be super rough with luggage, but I didn't expect the damage on the bag upon my first use. Maybe I got a bad bag but I expected this bag to survive its first use.

we have not left for vacation yet, but the item seems to be very well built. its put together very well and is exactly what we thought. we tried it on as a pack back and was very comfortable. has LOTS of room and nice size pockets for shoes or dirty clothes. cant wait to try it out in the real world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic bag, February 8, 2008

Fantastic bag, held everything I take on a weekend camping trip. Only problem, if I strap it to my motorcycle it blocks my rear view mirrors.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strong Fabric, Weak Wheels and Zippers, December 10, 2011
By
I have the same problems as a lot of the other reviewers. The zippers are a bit undersized (especially on the back compartment) and need to be handled gently. The real annoyance is the very thin plastic that keeps the wheels straight. The plastic panel broke into small pieces the first time I flew with this bag and the wheels just kind of flap around now while the bottom of the bag drags on the ground. I have to carry the bag despite it being designed to roll.

On the plus side, the fabric is strong. I haven't had any major rips despite using this bag a lot. Also, the bottom zip compartment is really nice for laying pants/shirts/jackets in and minimizing wrinkles.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Looking Bag With Bad Flaws, January 15, 2012
I purchased this bag a year ago for my wife. She used it six months later on our trip to Italy. The bag performed well on the trip but when we returned home I noticed that the stitching that holds the bottom to the bag was slightly frayed but did not look it would cause a problem. Gosh was I wrong. We went on another trip to Oregon and when we arrived at the Portland airport baggage claim I saw the the bottom of the bag was open and that the zipper teeth had separated from the zipper backing and the contents were exposed. Luckily nothing was lost. I sewed the zipper shut for the return trip home. We shipped the bag back to High Sierra and they immediately sent us a replacement which was a flimsey and cheaper version of the bag we had. When I unpacked it I saw that the top zipper to the entry for the bag was already unraveled and defective. I called High Sierra and they sent another of the cheaper bags but I have no confidence that the bag will last any longer than it's predecessor because it has the same zippers and the same flawed design.

We bought two bright red 36" Drop Bottom Wheeled Duffels and tested them out at Christmas! They are great! Lots of space, light, roll nicely, easy to lift to a bed for packing/unloading/ repacking. Zippered segments galore! Strong fabric. Haven't flown w/them yet. Hoping the 36" size won't be an issue as a few folks have mentioned.

Excellent brand, beautiful design and colour, many devices for various purposes. The only problem with this kind of bag is the weight, more than 6 pounds, however if you need walk long distance, this bag is wonderful for that.

This bag has more storage than I first imagined. I love it. I was able to pack in it clothes for two weeks, which included; extra underwear, extra socks and two pairs of shoes. It made traveling a breeze as this was the only piece of luggage I needed.
