3.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this bag but IT BROKE after 3-4 weeks of use.
I own this High Sierra 26" Drop Bottom Wheeled Duffle and love it. It is very light, functional and has a lot of room to place your items. It is easy to carry and move with its wheels. I am a frequent traveler and regularly carry between 40 and 50 pounds of luggage weight between locations. After literally a few weeks of usage, it literally broke at the seams and tear...

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect option!, April 9, 2008
I searched long and hard for a suitable luggage option that incorporated adequate capacity, yet portability for an active vacation. My wife and I are traveling to the Cinque Terre in Italy and anticipate some challenging terrain for carrying luggage. I wanted a bag that would convert to a backpack carrying style when needed, but with capacity for a week's worth of travel. We purchased two of these bags just before a recent trip to Cozumel and they were great. We carried all our necessities including snorkel gear! For the seasoned traveler who wants to pack and travel with a single checked bag, this is the perfect option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection for Frequent Flyers, January 3, 2010

I've been using this bag for about a year now and I have to say it is the best luggage I have ever owned. The multiple handles let you maneuver when you are on the shuttle to the rental car lot or roll with ease to some of the more distant ticket counters, I'm looking at you IAH. The space is more than enough to get to the 50 pound max and the ease of getting to your gear in the bag will let you rearrange if you went over.

If you carry tools or cold weather gear the bottom section lets you keep your kit separate from your personal clothes and gives you the top pockets to keep things you will want to access quickly such as your GPS or Inverter. This bag is more than adequate for anything and has served me well. The bags construction is rugged but lightweight and has not taken any damage in the year I have used it.

Well made, Great Price, and Utilitarian to the max. This is the only checked bag you need unless you are Stevie Nicks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure Bag, November 14, 2009

Took this on a safari to Africa, which included several baggage handling episodes at airports, as well as in and out of safari trucks, etc. It held up very well through all of this, with only one seam giving way in one of the pockets (hopefully a minor repair). The other critical thing was since this was a "soft" piece of luggage it was able to fit in places I didn't think it would.

As far as the luggage itself, I thought the layout was perfect. I was able to fit enough clothes to accommodate a 2.5 week trip. The shoe compartment was also handy, both because it separated my shoes from my clothes, but also because I was able to gain easy access to them (the shoe department is on the outside/top). Also, because of the "expand" feature, I was also able to pack gifts I got on the road for the trip back. The zippers were strong and sturdy enough to smoosh the bag closed at the end of the trip.

Overall, a strong recommendation for any adventure trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars How does all this stuff fit in it?, June 21, 2010

This is one amazing piece of luggage. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but begin sticking things into it and you'll soon find out it seems to be bottomless.

The bag's concept is clever and exceptionally usable: the bottom part behaves like a regular bag, fit to pack folded clothes, with hold-down straps. The top part is like a duffel, perfect for irregularly shaped or harder objects. The two compartments open with independent zippers (meaning you need two luggage padlocks) and are separated by a soft nylon cover that remains rolled to one side with a velcro strap; simply unroll it and zip it around. If you want to use the whole bag as a duffel -- and a very spacious one, at that --, jusr keep the divider rolled.

The High Sierra 26" can be used as an upright wheeled bag, a backpack (the straps are packed into a zippered compartment in the back) or a duffel. As an upright, it is brilliant: this is the first wheeled duffel I own that actually stands vertical instead of just keeling over. If the bag is full, the outside pockets become very small -- because what's in the bag compresses pocket space -- and not really useful, but this doesn't bother me.

Construction seems to be solid, although I've yet to submit it to more arduous challenges. So far, it has resisted well.

5.0 out of 5 stars accomodates my needs very well, April 15, 2010

This review is from: High Sierra 26" Drop Bottom Wheeled Duffle (Apparel)
I work and live in tundra Alaska. I travel to villages a lot, and need to haul everything I need for a week at a time: sleeping bag, air mattress, food, clothing, toiletries, and my 'office'. Before, I hauled 4 bags with me, with my bedroll and sleeping bag strapped to the outside of my huge back pack. This bag is large enough to accommodate everything but my office! It has wheels, back pack straps, and a duffel-bag handle; very versatile. Not that I would want to take this on a hiking trip, but good for those times when I need to pull my two wheeled bags behind me. The duffel handles are easy to grab while on- and off-loading the little planes. The wheeled feature is perfect for pulling behind me. This bag easily accommodates my travel needs. It is sectioned so I can pack light, yet have adequate space to bring home my purchases without the need to check an additional bag on commercial flights. I am very pleased with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been around the world and back - almost 4 years, June 15, 2011

Not to go all Johnny Cash on you, but my High Sierra has been "everywhere, man" - to Belize, France, Japan, Korea and all over the USofA plenty over the last 3+ years I've had it. Stopped in to buy another one since the kids are inheriting mine. This bag is perfect in every way. The bottom compartment is spacious and expands for the those souvenirs for the wife and kids. I typically put shoes, small items, and gear there, and it fits nicely. The clothes go in the middle compartment which is accessible from the top U-shaped zipper or from the main pocket if you prefer to lay your suitcase open and access everything in it from one position - very handy. The front compartment with the horizontal 14" (approx.) zipper might look small at first glance, but its lining expands making an instant dirty clothes bag to keep your stinkin' socks and chonies away from your clean stuff.

Rolls great. Smooth wheels, no noise, no bumps after all the pounding this bag has taken. Telescopic handle is large, long and adjustable, and the grip is awesome. Underside of case is robust with protective high-grade plastic. And the cinch straps on the outside give you the extra assurance that the case will stay shut if you ever have a zipper failure, which I can't imagine b/c the zippers are GRADE A, THICK, SOLID zippers that every suitcase manufacture needs to study very closely... seriously.

The handles provide you with multiple ways to carry this bag which probably lends itself to being handled more solidly by baggage handlers. The handle on the bottom acts as the front balance point when standing the bag vertically.

Now, I can't confirm this last one, but I'd swear my bag rolls itself to the front of the baggage handler's cart b/c it is always one of the first bags out. I'll need to research this further. Can't ask for anything more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Euro Trip Purchase!, June 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: High Sierra 26" Drop Bottom Wheeled Duffle (Apparel)
This bag was great! It withstood the horrors of the baggage claim at 4 different airports, looking as good as new. The wheels handled cobblestone streets just fine as well as other obstacles. It is well balanced and I was NOT constantly stopping to set it straight when I was walking. I saw this a lot with other bags, they would just topple over. Not this one! It has more than enough room for all that I would need on a 10 day trip to Europe. It even had room for souvenirs and whatnot (it expands) on the way home! All in all, I'd definitely buy it again! It's an amazing product for the price!!

3.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this bag but IT BROKE after 3-4 weeks of use., August 26, 2011

After literally a few weeks of usage, it literally broke at the seams and tear at the bottom and the top parts of the bag. I have read all the favorable reviews on the bag on this Amazon forum and that is primarily the reason I was encouraged to purchase this bag. I will be calling High Sierra to make arrangements for this bag to be replaced asap. I am hoping that my experience with this bag is an abberation considering the overwhelming positive reviews on this bag. I will update my review based on how the company mitigate this issue. I am hoping that they have excellent customer service.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Go-To Bag, February 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This bag first came to my attention when I traveled with a friend who had one. After she showed me some of it's features, I bought one. That was 3 years go and I've used it for every trip I've taken since that was more than 3 days. I use the bottom compartment, which has more structure, to pack shoes, toiletries, gear & socks. The mesh compartment is good for underwear, bathing suit, etc. I'm able to fit all the clothes I need in the top compartment. I use the side compartment on top for dirty clothes during my trip. I've taken this bag, along with a carry-on, on a 2 week trip to Greece, a 11-day safari in Africa, cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal, and week long trips to New Mexico & other parts of the U.S. It is very durable, easy to roll and holds a lot more then you'd think (and expands!). It's also pretty easy to pick out when claiming checked luggage. Best piece of luggage I've owned and it shows no sign of wear or tear, even after some rough treatment overseas. I like it so much, I just bought the rolling back-pack from High Sierra as my carry-on / weekend bag.
