I was looking for a backpack that I can use for both day hikes and for backpacking (I pack light when i go backpacking!). This pack is extremely comfortable, and has the perfect amount of storage for carrying all my gear. It has a sternum strap (which has elastic so it doesn't constrict your breathing), and a waist strap. padding on all the straps, and the padding on the back of the pack itself, is plenty comfortable. There is a phone/mp3 player pouch on the left shoulder strap, and the top of the pack has a special thru-hole for use with a water bladder.

My only complaint is that the zippers are a bit tricky to use. The zippers seem pretty durable, but it can be a pain in the butt if you have to unzip and zip the pack frequently. I think other reviewers pointed this out too. It isn't a deal-breaker, it's just kind of annoying. There is a fabric strip that covers the zippers (like most backpacks have), and if you pull it away from the zipper before you try to unzip the pack, it is much easier.

As far as capacity is concerned, I am able to fit all my backpacking gear (sleeping back, tent, food, fishing gear, etc), my full-size camera tripod that collapses to 15", and two 1-quart bottles in the mesh side pockets.

Update 9/18/2012:
My backpack is still good as new after 3 years, and I even use it as a carry on bag at the airport frequently, however the carrying handle on top tore off about a year ago. It didn't cause any damage to any seams or anything, so I just cut off the remaining material for the handle and continue using the backpack without it. I do miss it sometimes though, it was a great place to grab hold of the bag to toss it into my car trunk. If the rest of the bag ever bites the dust, I will definitely consider buying this exact same backpack to replace it.

I recently bought this backpack to use while cycling and must say the quality is quite high. It seems to be made of a high quality water resistant material that will likely last a long time. The straps on this bag are thick and the back of the bag is made of a rather stiff foam. The pack is also versed with every attachment option imaginable, but I find it has too many straps that can get quite annoying. Inside there are not many pockets, just the two main pouches each with a thin separator and a small zip pocket. Overall for the price, this is a great backpack to use for outdoor activities.

Ordered the High Sierra Cirque 30 backpack off Amazon a couple weeks ago... been using it for about a week, and I love it. It's about as close to perfect as I could find. I'm one of those particular people who will shop something to death before I commit to buying anything, and this bag was no exception. It's got plenty of room in both compartments for everything I need to carry: I carry a couple of books for school in the large compartment, along with my clothes for the gym and my toiletries. I keep my gym shoes in the smaller front compartment so they don't get my clothes dirty. This also keeps the smelly gym shoes from stinking up my clothes. Everything fits perfectly. The best part of this bag though is the straps. The nicely padded back straps have dual adjustment: one to raise the pack higher on your back, and one to tighten the bag to your back. The padded waste strap is also key for keeping the bag high and tight to your back. As anyone who enjoys hiking knows, keeping the bag high and tight to your back is key to reducing fatigue, and it's also better for your back. This bag just feels so comfortable on my back I don't even really notice it's there. And I also run a lot with the bag on, and it doesn't move at all, it stays right where it should. The compression straps on either side help a lot with keeping everything from shaking around while you run, too. I've only had the bag for a week, so I can't honestly speak to it's durability, but it seems to be made just as well as my $500 mountain climbing back pack, so I'm sure it will last. Everything is double stitched and reinforced, and the materials seem top-notch. Zippers seem very strong, and the zippers each have hoods to keep rain out. Mesh bottle pouches are deep enough that bottles stay in place. Bag just fits into a gym 1/2 locker. Lots of thoughtful little extra touches.

This backpack was very well designed up until you need to organize very small items. Typical backpacks have a small compartment in the back with mini compartments for organization. This one does not have that feature.
My second reason for taking away the second star is this backpack indicates it's an internal frame backpack. The back mesh is just stiff, as there is no frame in that part of the bag. I'm not very experienced in camping/hiking backpacks so it could be I just don't know what i'm talking about. However there's definitely no internal frame structure within this backpack.
Otherwise this backpack was designed very well. I use it as an emergency bug out bag for the vehicle. I took all of my equipment out of an older backpack and put into this one. I couldn't believe how much lighter everything felt because of how well this backpack hugs close to the body. This might be why they didn't put in the 3rd organizational compartment, to keep the low profile slim design. For this backpack 30 liters really isn't all that much, so if you are looking for a lot of space this bag isn't for you. Zippers look of great quality, as well as the whole backpack, but time will be the true test.
