I started college with a backpack my mom got for me from costco (ful I think) which I found very cumbersome with regards to the height (especially when biking which is my only means of transportation aside from walking), shoulder straps, and the sheer ridiculous amount of pockets it had. I started looking for a new backpack with the following in mind: it had to comfortable size wise (so shorter than 19"), had to have 4 or fewer pockets, no computer/tablet slot, and be sturdy enough to withstand the constant strenous strain of college. Overall, I freaking love this thing. I didn't think I'd ever hold this much affection for an inanimate object as I do for my backpack. I normally never write any reviews since I don't usually find the product important/satisfying enough to bother with one. But I have to say this backpack deserves it!

Pros:
Color: I bought this in the ash/chartreuse and I must say I love the color combination! It's just enough green to make it stylish, but not gaudy; and I found the grey to be more feminine than the standard black fare.

Size: The size is deceptively small. On the outside it looks quite svelte, but you can fit a lot stuff without too much trouble. I generally carry 4-5 notebooks, 1 1" binder, 2-3 smallish paperbacks, 10" tablet w/case, and if necessary during midterm/final's week my ochem textbook which is a bit thicker than a 2" binder, and a pen case along with other knickknacks like my phone, water bottle (1L so bigger than most), etc. It fit everything nicely and without any problems!

Construction: I have to hand it to High Sierra, they made this backpack quite resilient.

I am a school teacher and a mom. This is big enough to fit my laptop, a few books and a makeup case, I take this to work and home everyday, or if we are going somewhere, change of clothes for kids. I did not want big and bulky backpack. This is just perfect. However, if you are a student that carries multiple books and binders on a regular basis - this may be too small.

this backpack is made out of a great water resistant nylon material which holds up well if walking through the rain and also contains ample space for school...I got this pack for college and it will hold my 15.6 inch laptop notebooks and a book or two along with pens water bottle etc....great for the money wont be disapointed.

This was a replacement school pack for my 10 year old son. It looked to be smaller than the one he had before but it turns out it holds plenty (large lunchbox, several books, folders, and even a stuffed up sweatshirt) I am happy with the durability so far, but we've only had it a few months. I'll post an update if any issues arise! So far, so good...

I am a bigger guy- 6'2" and when this first arrived I thought I would have to send it back. But it holds a couple textbooks, a couple notebooks, and my ipad well. Also fits a big water bottle in the side mesh pocket which is nice. Happy and will keep.

I once had the pleasure of owning a very nice and dependable pack, also made by HS that was with me for over five years and never broke a seam or broke a zipper. This pack is a somewhat scaled down version of that pack with somewhat more restricted zipping (i.e., it only zips a quarter way down the sides from top, though this is not an inconvenience at all). Overall, it is perfect for me, a student who rides a motorcycle and doesn't need his old oversized (and somewhat cumbersome) Army pack to fling him around while riding. Size wise, it will fit a few reasonably size textbooks as well as some notebooks as well as miscellaneous items such as wallet, keys, calculators, etc. The phone pouch on the strap is a great concept, as it allows me to keep my phone readily accessible (IT's much better than having to pry it from your pants/jacket pocket at a stop light), though it should be noted that my iPhone is a perfect, but somewhat snug fit (without case). This is OK, as I have faith it is secure but a larger size phone may have trouble getting it in. My one concern with the cell pouch is it's height on the strap is almost too high to be comfortable. Another 3 1/2' lower would have been (in my opinion) ideal. The major issue I have with this pack is the fact that two days into using it, the vertical seam directly above the HS embroidery has begun to split and ,mind you, I have NOT been cramming the pouches to max space potential. This seems to indicate a drop in quality from what I've come to expect from HS as my last pack lasted me for so long, and still serves my brother to this day (even after countless camping trips, road trips, and flights). To be frank, I considered returning it, but after paying the $25, it would be more of a hassle than re-stitching the seam myself and hoping nothing else fails.Read more ›

I have been in college for three years and have been searching for a durable, simple, and good looking backpack. Finally found this and am sticking with it. Such a great bag with the compartments. I can fit four textbooks and a few journals in the largest compartment. It also has adjustable shoulder straps which has really helped me with my back issues. Didn't know how much the water bottle carrier on the side would help until I had it! highly recomend foe any high school or college student with heavy books and long days. Other reviews claim that the zipper broke... I have had it for three months and it still looks brand new. As long as you take care and don't neglect tour things, they will stay nice for a very long time. I got black and sugguest it as well.
