4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent backpack at a good price
The High Sierra 26" Railpass Travel Pack is the first travel pack I have owned. The purchase was for a 10 day trip to Thailand. It was an appropriate size for this length of trip, however, if you plan on shopping a lot during your trip, you might want a bigger pack.

3.0 out of 5 stars High Sierra 26" Railpass
I thought I had read a review or the description saying this coule be used as a carry on. But when I got it, it was much too large. I returned it and got the smaller 21" version instead. If I were backpacking through Europe, I would have kept it though. It seems like a great pack, that could hold lots of stuff and had convenient zippers, pockets, and straps everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent backpack at a good price, August 13, 2008

The High Sierra 26" Railpass Travel Pack is the first travel pack I have owned. The purchase was for a 10 day trip to Thailand. It was an appropriate size for this length of trip, however, if you plan on shopping a lot during your trip, you might want a bigger pack.

Considering the transportation I encountered in Thailand, this pack was very appropriate. For the airplane, the straps can be zipped behind a panel that is otherwise rolled and velcroed under the pack. Other modes of transportation included walking, bus, skytrain (BTS), ferry, longtail boat, taxi cab, and tuk tuk. The pack fared well in all situations, although it was a bit bulky on the sky train, and sort of tough to lift in and out of the longtail boat.

Sometimes I found it more convenient to carry the packs seperately; with the daypack on the front and the big pack on my back, or vice-versa. Other times, I zipped them together into one unit. When zipped together, the pack became somewhat unbalanced, however, I was not often using the packs in this manner for a long period of time. If you plan to go on a long hiking trip, then get a hiking backpack instead.

Converting the pack to hide straps or attach/remove the day pack was very easy and quick.

The frame and belt were not ideal for a woman's body. For reference, I am 5'6" or 5'7" and weigh about 135 lbs, and I am in good shape. The belt padding did not reach far enough around my hips to be comfortable, and although the frame was adjustable, I didn't fiddle with it long enough to find an adjustment that was ideal. Maybe over time I will.

I would definitely recommend this pack due to the cheap price, and flexibility of its uses.

I am pleased with this luggage. It is well made and durable. It is a bit heavy but that is due to the construction. I have carried it on a number of different types of airline flights and it has always complied (so far). I expect to get a lot of use from this luggage.

Love this product. After two years' use, I am still completely sold. The zippers work well, the fit is comfortable. It is a very useful and very flexible product. My previous backpack was stolen and I never thought I would say "thank you" to a thief. But the High Sierra 26" pack, with removable daypack, may force me to express my gratitude to these criminals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Travel BackPack, February 10, 2007

This seems to be a well put together pack with high functionality. We tried to decide between this one and the larger model--this one seems to be good for a Summer week trip (winter Long weekend) if you travel light. For a week trip it is a bit small.

Very sturdy, convenient, easy to separate and put back together. It's been a couple of years and still looks like new. Very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solidly constructed with multiple places to store items, October 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This bag was solidly built with plenty of storage space. The removable day pack is small and easy to both remove from the main bag and return to the main bag after using it. The item I purchased had some minor errors in the stitching, but nothing more than you find on any piece of luggage with a reasonable price. A bit large for ultra portability, but perfect for a day or two of traveling.

4.0 out of 5 stars Listed volume is incorrect., January 16, 2011

I am researching packs and have not purchased one yet, but I wanted to let prospective buyers that the listed volume on the product is wrong. According to the manufacturer's website, the correct volume is 3050 cubic Inches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy & Useful Travel Backpack w/Day Pack, December 14, 2010

This is a sturdy pack with enough room to work for on a 2 week trip and most likely I would have been able to stretch it to a month. I picked this pack because it opened like a suitcase verses a stuff pack, plus it has the additional day pack. I've borrowed one similar on previous trips and loved it. The additions I liked from my friends pack was the ability to cover/hide the back straps for flying, the addition of the side handle (it has a top handle also), clips for a strap to carry it like a duffle bag. Good adjusting back straps. Really no major suggestions for the larger pack, except may adding a mesh zipper pocket on the inside lid as there is no compartments. Also I'm not a fan of the zip on day pack so much, the last pack I had provided a pocket to slip the day pack into, which was also nice when the pack was out because I could slip an extra jacket in the area for easy access or something similar, yet again, no big deal, just a personal thought.

The day pack looks small but really has lots of room, several areas to organize items. The one major thing High Sierra should think about adding would be at least one water bottle pocket on the side of the day pack. There is one on the main pack, but it would have been great to have on the day pack also/instead.

Otherwise I really liked this pack and would buy it again in a heartbeat!

This backpack appears to be of ok quality. I haven't used it yet, but one of the plastic zipper tips came off. I was able to make a repair, but I hope this isn't a sign of problems when it is put to use.
