5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected
We just returned from a trip to Southeast Asia, so this is a real-world review. First, a few things the site fails to mention: the pack has dual cross straps, one for the chest and one for the waist, the chest strap has built in elastic, the netting that is stored in the bottom of the pack (and attaches at the top) is perfect for holding damp clothes or beach towel and...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bag size seemed perfect, but couldn't hold water
I was pretty excited to get this yesterday just in time for a brick workout--20 mile bike ride followed by 5 mile run. The heat and humidity have been so bad this summer that a longer excursion like that almost requires a hydration pack.

I filled the bladder up in the sink and started to put it back in the bag when I noticed water streaming off of it (not...

We just returned from a trip to Southeast Asia, so this is a real-world review. First, a few things the site fails to mention: the pack has dual cross straps, one for the chest and one for the waist, the chest strap has built in elastic, the netting that is stored in the bottom of the pack (and attaches at the top) is perfect for holding damp clothes or beach towel and each pocket has dual zippers.

Highs:
Very comfortable (The Air Flow System keeps it from sticking to you)
Additional space available even with a full reservoir (Think day trip/protein bars and suntan lotion)
Good Water Flow (once you get the knack)

Lows:
It took several rinses before the plastic taste diminishes (try baking soda)

Suggestion:
Use small rubber bands to keep the straps from flapping about.

All in all, an excellent value!

I was pretty excited to get this yesterday just in time for a brick workout--20 mile bike ride followed by 5 mile run. The heat and humidity have been so bad this summer that a longer excursion like that almost requires a hydration pack.

I filled the bladder up in the sink and started to put it back in the bag when I noticed water streaming off of it (not just a drip, but a constant stream). At first I thought I had gotten too sloppy with the water in the sink and it was just pouring off the outside of the bag. I put it in the outer backpack type bag and was going to use it anyway, but found that the water was leaking from where the hose meets the bladder so bad that it was impossible to get a drink.

I wanted to love this. The pack was a great size for both biking and running (plus had a place to store your helmet when not in use!), but it was impossible to use. I'm thinking that the extra money for the CamelBak is worth it.

Had this happened to me after a year or two of use I might be alright with it, but since it happened day one, I give it one star.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK for the price, July 23, 2010

I had to cut open the mouth piece! The mouthpiece on the hydration hose had no hole in it at all to suck the water through. Luckily, I figured out how to cut one with my exacto knife in the right spot so it will close of when you're not biting it. So far I'm happy with the pack for the price.

I think the problem others are having with the leak where the hose connects to the bag is because it screws in right there and seems to easily come loose. The problem could also be with the rubber gasket right there which makes the seal tight. If it's leaking it might be because the gasket is missing or positioned incorrectly. I screwed it in real tight and haven't had a problem yet. I'll report back after a few weeks of use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for biking, July 8, 2010
This review is from: High Sierra Torrent 70 Hydration Pack (Apparel)
This bag is a good choice if you need a little extra space while biking. I've only used it once so far, but plan to use it more. The design of the compartments is a tad awkward as they are sort of stacked. The large, main compartment is the full length of the bag, but you wouldn't be able to fully utilize the length of it if the smaller compartment had anything in it. You can easily fit items needed for a day trip. There are two straps and a hook on the outside if you need additional storage. Plus, a stowable net for a bike helmet.

I bought this bag based on it's size, not for the hydration. So I can not offer reviews of the hydration aspect.

I'm 5'2 and 105lbs and the bag is a nice fit. It stayed put for a 10 mile bike ride. At first, I thought the material of the bag made it heavy, but once it's on your back, loaded up, it makes no difference. The bag offers mesh to keep your back cool. I find that no matter the technology, you're still gonna sweat (especially if you live in a humid climate as I do.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Price but...................., June 25, 2010

While the High Sierra Torrent 70 was a great price and appeared to have ALL the "functions" I was looking for, I am very disappointed in the fluid bladder. It leaked out the bottom where the tube is connected. Almost 1/3 of my water was lost and the worst part is I had my MP3 player in the pocket and it got soaked and stopped playing!! I'm pretty upset and hoping once it dries out it will work again.
While mine could be a one in a hundred problem I'm not sure I would recommend this. Maybe pay a little more for a more reliable product??

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag, May 3, 2010

I am a beginner hiker, and a boater so I bought this bag for the price and the many pockets. It is very lightweight with lots of room to store important items. I have gps, camera, (the essentials)plenty of room for a light jacket or sweater. It is extremely comfortable with breast and waist straps to help hold the pack in place if cycling or running. The stiching seems very tight, and overall strong material.

The only real adjustment i made was to the mouth piece, i had to make the hole bigger in order for more water to come out.

Overall, I am very pleased with this pack, I would definitely buy it again,
