5.0 out of 5 stars And I do like Sondre Lerche and Nick Drake and Badly Drawn Boy
Good easy listening. I have to say this album is a favorite of mine. Good to write papers to. I have to agree with the other review that it is a taste issue. If your music interests are a bit more well seasoned/cultured, you'll enjoy this album more than someone whose looking for something with more bite and a highly digitized sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This reminds me of Sondre Lerche and Nick Drake and Badly Drawn Boy. I hate to be endlessly associative but that's the way I work. If you like those artists, you'll want to listen to this. I just downloaded She is Gone and am grateful to local public radio for putting it out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll Say It Now--This Group Could Make It Big!, February 14, 2009
This review is from: High Society (Audio CD)
I remember hearing The Bees (now The Silver Seas) album High Society a couple years ago and was amazed at the catchiness of each song. This album could have been made in the 70s era of soft rock and probably done exceptionally well. However, this album is so different than the Top 20 music today that it would be hard for this group to get airtime. That's a shame, as we need more Silver Seas music and less of singers who are not much of singers nor musicians.

Good news for the group is that their song "Imaginary Girl" is now played on a popular washing machine advertisement. Maybe this will help the Silver Seas in their career and hopefully get them to make another record!

Also, I have high praise for the producing of the album. You can easily hear the harmonies in the singers, such as on the title track. The harmonies in songs like High Society and Hard Luck Tom really make the album work well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pet Sounds for the 21st Century, February 1, 2009
This review is from: High Society (Audio CD)
This recording is a masterpiece from start to finish. Although the influences are many, there is a lot of Brian Wilson and the muse which gave birth to Pet Sounds back in the 60s. It has simplicity and complexity and something special in every song. Great harmonies, heartfelt lyrics (and some tunes with no lyrics) and songs that stick in your head and won't go away - and that's a good thing. It just makes me smile with tunes like "Hard Luck Tom" with lyrics about this poor guy whose life is falling apart put to a melody that captures the most perfect warm day in spring - put them together and it just works.

Go find a copy at the band's web site if there is not one avaiable here at a good price. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprise!, February 24, 2009
This review is from: High Society (Audio CD)
You know the song "Imaginary Girl" (from a clothes washer commercial of all thinkgs). Now listen to the group behind that little diddy.

It was a complete surpise to me that this group (that I had never heard of) sounds this good.

Make the purchase and surprise yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album needs to be heard! 4 1/2 stars, January 16, 2009

There are many groups out there that create a good 70's vibe with their music, but Silver Seas is at the top of the heap with this album. Opening up strong with "The Country Life", which could pass as a bonus track on Neil Young's "Harvest", and going thru flawless should-be singles "Ms. November", "Imaginary Girl" (my pop single of '08) and "Hard Luck Tom" and concluding with a strong closer, "The Broadway Lights", the album never lets up in the song quality department. Fans of Neil Young, America and the early 70's Beach Boys shouldn't have any trouble getting into "High Society", which deserves to be heard in high society as well as everywhere else.
