General Review,
By
This review is from: High-Speed Cisco Networks: Planning, Design, and Implementation (Paperback)
This book offers a variety of solutions for networks with bandwidth-intensive applications. It begins with a description of Hubs and it continues with Switches, Routers and then High speed Routers. The Book is very simple to read and it contains examples to simplify the understanding of the material. The author has described a variety of high-speed LANs and WANs with trouble shooting guies and recommended solutions. John Vacca has done an excellent job in consolidating information on electronic routing of information using, more specifically, CISCO Routers .

With the rapid advances in technology, upgrading of high speed networks will occur sooner rather than latter. High-Speed Cisco Networks by John Vacca provides experienced networking professionals with a step by step approach to all they will need to know about Cisco's LAN and WAN systems. It is the reference tool to use to understand the Cisco products so that planning, designing and implementing a high performance LAN or WAN system can commence.

This review is from: High-Speed Cisco Networks: Planning, Design, and Implementation (Paperback)
This book is another fine example of the "John Vacca style" of technical writing. It never ceases to amaze me how he explains extremely technical subjects in a clear and concise manner. This book addresses all levels of technical expertise such that virtually anyone will profit by having read it. Even after having worked with Cisco equipment for 12 years I can say that this book has taught me a thing or two. Do yourself and your career a favor and read this book from cover-to-cover.

This review is from: High-Speed Cisco Networks: Planning, Design, and Implementation (Paperback)
John Vaccas' latest publication is one of the best organized and readable technology specific references I've seen to date. Mr. Vacca covers all aspects of CISCO LAN and WAN network planning, design, implementation and testing from both the hardware and software perspectives. The book provides a wealth of interface configuration examples and a guide to WAN application design tools. The book also provides a glimpse into the future direction of LAN/WAN Internetworking Applications. A recommended read for IT professionals who work with network communication products.

Comprehensive Guide to CISCO Networks,
By A Listener (Columbus, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: High-Speed Cisco Networks: Planning, Design, and Implementation (Paperback)
This book provides a complete overview of high-speed CISCO networks: reviewing network basics; planning for the network (including cost considerations); selecting and implementing the network; installing and maintaining the network; configuring interfaces; and evaluating performance. Particularly useful are the sections on hardware technologies and internetworking technology. The book also contains helpful information about national and international standards. The future directions chapters discuss various security issues, as well as the configuration of existing networks (e.g. AppleTalk and Novell). The appendices provide step-by-step instructions for configuring a network as well as a glossary of significant terms and examples. All in all, a comprehensive and essential reference guide for network managers.

*Great* comprehensive Cisco Network book,

This review is from: High-Speed Cisco Networks: Planning, Design, and Implementation (Paperback)
This is an exciting book for networking professionals. At long last, a comprehensive Cisco book has been published which covers the end to end aspects of LAN/WAN. The organization of the book is elegantly simple and logical, 1) overview 2) system planning 3) design, 4) installation, 5) maintenance, 6) future issues. Cisco line of products are integrated into the step by step descriptions in the book. I'm a very hands-on engineer, and I greatly appreciate the extensive use of clear diagrams and figures. In particular, the "how-to" installation notes are wonderful. This content makes this book invaluable for both technical managers to field engineers and techs.A terrific reference book.

This review is from: High-Speed Cisco Networks: Planning, Design, and Implementation (Paperback)
The "John Vacca Style" of basic and structured flow make this text that deals with some of the most advanced pieces of networking technology, a breeze to understand. Especially helpful for students of the trade, this book can take you through the entire creation, design, and deployment of a local or wide area network. John seems to be as prolific as Stephen King in the technical genre and this book is certainly not a disappointment.
