5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection In The Cortex Of Pop-Rock
I've been a huge fan of this band for 2 years, ever since "F**k n' Spend". I loved all the previously released material from the EP, I heard the clips of the new material on iTunes, the day of the album's release, and I originally was disappointed, but I finally got around to getting the CD yesterday, and the new material is fantastic, just as good as the old stuff, "Last...

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Excellent
I first heard the High Speed Scene on G4's "Attack of the Show", and I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were compared to other groups previously featured on the program. Their song, "In the Know" hooked me from the beginning, and I bought their debut CD simply on the merit on that one tune. After taking one listen-through of the entire album, however, I was...

I loved all the previously released material from the EP, I heard the clips of the new material on iTunes, the day of the album's release, and I originally was disappointed, but I finally got around to getting the CD yesterday, and the new material is fantastic, just as good as the old stuff, "Last Chance" [a new song], is the best track on the album, and simply pop-rock at its finest. The rest of the album a fantastic, a must-buy for anyone who loves pop, rock, or anything in between.

Well worth price to check these boys out. They serve up some delicious tunes on this album, by far one of my favourites out this year.

I first heard the High Speed Scene on G4's "Attack of the Show", and I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were compared to other groups previously featured on the program. Their song, "In the Know" hooked me from the beginning, and I bought their debut CD simply on the merit on that one tune. After taking one listen-through of the entire album, however, I was blown away by the quality of the songs. The melodies are quite catchy and the vocals are great (especially on my instant favorites "Hello Hello" and "Crazy star"). In fact, "In the Know" soon got over-shadowed by all of the new songs I was discovering.
Now, don't get me wrong. This album is intensely juvenile. A fifteen-year old boy in math class at the local high school could have written these lyrics. They have no depth and no true meaning. However, if you can listen to lyrics like, "He's making fun because I play in marching band," without gagging, then this CD would be a very good buy. Almost all (the only exceptions being the absolutely atrocious "Last Chance" and "All Swans") the songs are easy to listen to. The only thing you'll have to worry about would be burnout. You might get tired of listening to these songs over and over again, but trust me, it's worth the risk. Want my advice? Buy it used for less than 25 cents. It's a good deal.

Final Verdict:
If you're an open-minded, melody-driven, or soft-core music fan, then get this CD. You might just like tHSS.

If you're a musical elitist who flames on any song that has ever been mentioned in the same sentence as the word "pop" and believes that music with no lyrical meaning could never possibly be worth listening to, then avoid this album like the plague.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Speed Scene- ROC Z'es, November 25, 2005

I first saw them on Attack of The Show on G4 and ever since then I've been telling everyone I know about them. Although not the best lyrics, who needs them when you have such amazing riffs, head boppin drums, and twisty base. The High Speed Scene is making a mark on the music scene.

So what if High Speed Scene isn't creating revolutionary music. Not all music has to be challenging, right?! I would compare these guys to The Offspring - in your face popish rock with crunchy guitars & uncomplicated lyrics. Some songs are very amusing and there is no doubt these guys are talented musicians. Good f&#king fun.

This review is from: High Speed Scene (Audio CD)
This album is probley one of my favourite albums, (besides classics like the Clash-london calling, and others) but its just such an upbeat album, everytime I listen to it I cant help but turning it up full blast and just rocking to it. Its the album i listen to when im upset, it gets me really upbeat, that only do they have a great album, but they are sick in concert! I saw them at the Jimmy concert, and i knew i had to get their album! its a definite 5 stars from me! Rock on!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Power Pop, July 26, 2005

Awesome Power Pop is all I need to say about The High Speed Scene. This much fun crammed onto a shiny silver disc may be illegal. The tunes on this release will definitely satisfy your need for melody and hooks. This reminds me of Deathray's debut release and nods to Weezer, The Cars and even Devo are all part of the party to be experienced on this great release.

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are dynamite!, April 13, 2005
This review is from: High Speed Scene (Audio CD)
So I just completely rocked to the High Speed Scene at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO, and these guys are freaking awesome! At first I was like "Wait a minute, these guys aren't Andrew W.K. They don't know how to rock..." And then, after Max, their wicked lead singer dude starts talking saying stuff like "Sometimes, you've gotta break some teeth to eat raw steel," I was like "Yes!! This band is kickass!" And honestly, they put it down hardcore. There's like this kinda 80's Devo-esque vibe to their rocking, but then all of a sudden it's like "BAM! WE'RE GONNA ROCK YOUR SOX OFF!" And then they completly do rock your socks off because why would they want to let you down?! That's what I thought!

So, with that said, this CD is obviously a worthy purchase. These guys may not be huge now, and who knows they may never be huge, but one thing is for certain, they're rocking ability is just as huge as ALL THESE CAPITAL LETTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And trust me, if you put those letters in like 28 point font, bold, underlined, those letters are huge, which is directly proportional to the rocking ability of the High Speed Scene. Huge!
