There have been a tremendous number of books in recent years about brave souls who find a charming old house somewhere in France, buy it and have all kinds of adventures fixing it up. But none of them can quite compete with Mel Comley's experience -- her old French farmhouse came complete with some very mysterious "extras" -- a stain that couldn't be removed from a wall, some strange lights and sounds, and a whole lot of creepiness. Comley and her mother bought the house hoping for a pleasant, peaceful retirement. What they got was enough chills and shivers to make them re-think their plan. This is a nicely written true story that could double as a cautionary tale after you read some of those other my-wonderful-French-house books.
