Brian J, Mayteana Morales and Chauncey Yearwood have created magic here. There's no other band quite like the PJT; it's an irresistible blend of styles, from Latin to Afrobeat to Reggae to Gospel to Blues to Zydeco, all layered into a crust of pure funk. This CD will grow on you like a funky fungus and you will live and breathe the Joyful Noise. And when you see them live (you will if you're smart and fortunate) you will gyrate non-stop, even the stodgiest non-dancers among you! Resistance is futile. This is some of the greatest music I've ever enjoyed in my many years of serious listening.

I saw these guys in Boulder this past weekend; never heard of them and had no idea what to expect. Hey, I was pleasantly surprised. A quintet with some sampling here and there but they really stood out when it came to their live musicianship. I halfway expected them to falter when they stepped up to play "live" but I was particularly impressed by the chops from the guitarist. Too bad they (and the audience) had to suffer through the poor dynamics of the sound system that too often plagues "opening acts." I suspect they may overcome that problem soon.

zBirdman nailed it with his review! These guys are fun to listen to and you'll find yourself involuntarily tapping your foot to most of their songs. My brother sent this to me out of the blue, and it has become one of my favorites very quickly. This disc gets a LOT of play time on my iPod. I can't wait until their next release.

Listening to this album is like taking a crash course in music history, but in a good way. There's something for almost anybody somewhere on this album. "The Pimps of Joytime" use sounds and influences from everything (hip-hop, country, rock, reggae, funk, samba, rap, gospel, R&B, jazz, soul, world music, and I'm not kidding) and manage to mash this melange into a deliciously smooth album. With songs that are positive, affirming and infectious, it's an eclectic and consistently entertaining album that gets better every time I hear it. If you like music, there's sure to be something on "High Steppin" that will get your toes tapping, your head nodding, and your mouth smiling. All props to The Pimps of Joytime!

The Pimps of Joytime's "High Stepping" is pure fun. The musicality of their songs are outstanding as their never seems to be a dull, predictable moment. Jazzy, jammy and Funky with a little Latin twist make the Pimps first CD a truly unique sound. Oh yeah, they also throw some reggae and blues at you as well. I find that I am playing them more and more in my iPod. Some highlights for me include the John Lee Hookeresque "Long Ride" and the Latin driven "Bonita". I Hope the POJT are able to make it and continue their musical journey into uncharted waters.
