Three out of Four Collars not Working,
By
This review is from: High Tech Pet Microsonic Extra Rugged Ultrasonic Transmitter Collar MS-2A (Misc.)
I have four animals and only one can use the door at this moment since I presently have four collars and three out of the four are not working. Great door but when the collars don't work- the door doesn't work so it doesn't make it a great product!! It makes it unreliable and untrustworthy. In addition- I do not leave the door activated if I am away from the house fearing it might trap one of my animals outside during the hot summer or cold winter months due to the collars tendancy to quit working.

This collar is not more rugged or water resistant than it's predecessor. Don't waste your money. Buy the earlier version and if you like me and have dogs that like water and get a little wet in the sprinklers, water proof it yourself. I have two dogs so I bought two. One is already broken from water damage and it hasn't even been a month. What a waste of money.

I've purchased two of these and four of the regular (not 'water resistant') and they are all equally terrible at resisting a day at the beach.

Door is great. Collar is horrible.,
This review is from: High Tech Pet Microsonic Extra Rugged Ultrasonic Transmitter Collar MS-2A (Misc.)
Had an issue where the dog needed to come into the house but cat has to stay out. This door is the perfect solution. The door itself works great. I got the battery version and don't have to charge it very often. Cat has only come in once- when dog slept near the door and the transmitter/collar kept the door open. The collar, on the other hand, is horrible. It is attached to a flimsy piece of nylon. Doesn't have a clasp so I have to leave it loose and slip it over the dog's head. First collar lasted about 6 months. Thought it was just the battery but the replacement didn't work. By the way, batteries this size are difficult to find so order extras or plan a trip to Radio Shack. Thankfully I read the reviews and purchased an extra collar. Suggest you also get a backup version. I'm now ordering my third collar. My dog doesn't swim and only wears it for about 10 hours/day but it just doesn't hold up. I also wish there was a way to attach it to is standard collar instead of making him wear 2 collars.

8 month evaluation,
This review is from: High Tech Pet Microsonic Extra Rugged Ultrasonic Transmitter Collar MS-2A (Misc.)
My Wife and I installed a the hitec dog door. It worked well for a while but within 3 months we started having problems. Alot of times the door gets stuck and does not close. For something with such a high price they should have worked out all the bugs before releasing the final product. Our biggest issue is with the collars. They charge way too much for the accesories like chargers and collars. I beleive we paid over 30 dollars for a rinky dink collar, it looks like a 12 year old put it together in his garage. One of the collars stopped working in the first 4 months. The company claims to have a customer service line but it always goes to a recording and after over a dozen attempts I have yet to get a actual person on the phone. They also claim to have the "world best electrical engineers" these products are obvioussly poorly designed. These products function horribly and appear to be assembled from cheap parts by the lowest bidder.

I like this transmitter a lot! We've had the powered door for 2 years now, and after about 6 months (and a really wet and snowy day) the original (non-rugged)transmitter stopped working. It worried us quite a bit, as other reviewers point out- you never want to strand your pet on the wrong side of a door, or cause them to lose confidence in it's operation... We got one of these rugged and water resistant ones and have been very happy! I find the battery life to be true to claim- about every 3-4 months... and we got another dog 6 months ago and they both wear one, which gives a backup... if one pet were ever stranded the other one would come to the rescue! We haven't had any failure of these transmitters, but I do keep a spare on hand, and a couple spare batteries ready for a quick change when they get weak. I don't use the included collar, but ziptie the transmitter to my dog's existing collar.
To the reviewer who said they didn't hold up to beach use... Do you have a pet door on the beach? How about removing the sensor before going to the beach?! It doesn't seem that complicated to me. You don't take your cell phone swimming just because it's in a hard case do you? Within reason, this is a great "rugged" transmitter.

I hope the New collar is Better,
This review is from: High Tech Pet Microsonic Extra Rugged Ultrasonic Transmitter Collar MS-2A (Misc.)
The door is great, but the old collar transmitter would pop open and the battery would fall out when the dog shook,. She is around 80 lbs. We finally lost part of one collar so I taped the second one closed. We used cable ties to mount the transmitter to the dogs regular collar. The door has worked perfectly and I would give it 5 stars. The old collar transmitter was poorly designed and had the silliest battery contact I have ever seen. I hope the new one is better.

This collar and the PowerPet door work great - having an extra collar is a must so that you can swap out when a battery runs low, or you can let a "guest" dog use it while they are visiting.

Cheap plastic, falls apart easily,
This review is from: High Tech Pet Microsonic Extra Rugged Ultrasonic Transmitter Collar MS-2A (Misc.)
This is a horrible, poorly made cheap piece of plastic that falls apart constantly. I am now on my 5th one, and each one has fallen apart within 1-2 months.
