5.0 out of 5 stars High Time, December 4, 2000

This review is from: High Time (Textbook Binding)
Mary Lasswell's three main characters are extremely down-to-earth, loveable people who are not only funny, but wise. Their high jinxs in all five of the serial books not only keep a person laughing, but also provide a guide which any person would do well to live by. "High Time" and the other four books written about the same ladies are my favorite books of all time. I have read each of them at least 10 times, and plan on reading them many more. I am only sorry more books with these three characters were not written. I highly recommend them to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delight!, November 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: High Time (Textbook Binding)
I have read and re-read the entire series of these books since I was young. I recently found an old copy of the first of the series, "Suds in Your Eye," which I gave to a friend. She told me that she laughed out loud through the entire book (as I have many times), and now wants to read them all. Although it's probably a good idea to read "Suds" first to get properly acquainted with the characters, "High Time" is favorite.

Buy a copy--sure go good with the beer!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Shelf Full of Mary Lasswell, February 10, 2009
This review is from: High Time (Hardcover)
I gave Suds in Your Eye by Mary Lasswell to my wife for Christmas. She had no idea what to expect but loved it so much that she read it over and over again. (At least 4 times that I'm aware of.) So I got her High Time and Mrs. Rasmussen's Book of One Arm Cookery. Same result. So I just purchased two more of Mary Lasswell's novels. I'm certain that we will soon have a whole shelf in our personal library devoted to Laswell's literary output.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Love These Gals!!, February 4, 2008

Fellow Readers,
I must admit I keep a 3 X 5" card in the book as I read! This #2 book in the series of six "Suds" books keeps me smiling.
Quotes I love;
"Ain't you a mite crotch-bound in them slacks?" Early "camel-toe reference."
"With utmost unconcern. . ." I've used this a couple of times . . .hee, hee.

There are also amusing names for children such as "Imps O' Satan," culled while the gals lend a hand to the war effort by doing some babysitting.
If you don't think that's funny, perhaps you have a "personality dis-harmony."
The names of the main characters crack me up;
Daphne Garfunkle, mother of Pierpoint and Myrna
Vocabulary words I looked up;
Recalcitrant, elucidated, stanchions, retrench, viands and I still don't know what a "skunk chubby" is.
Have fun and be sure to embrace the joie de vivre!

Christine

5.0 out of 5 stars In case of Life Threatening lassitude, open and read., May 26, 2010
This review is from: High Time (Hardcover)
Now of an exceedingly advanced age, I first read these delightful books at about age 9. I have worn out several sets, and gifted truly special friends with their own complete sets. They are perhaps the greatest panaceas for disease, pestilence, clinical depression, boredom, jock itch and world-wide atrocities ever created. I home in on them whenever I need a pick-me-up; they have accompanied me all through my long and checkered life like warm teddy bears. I love them. Period.

By the author of Suds in Your Eye and others in the series; see my reviews of One on the House (inexplicably listed by Amazon as "One OF the House") and Tooner Schooner. Not to be missed!
