Book Description

September 3, 2010
Rémy, an expat living in Japan, is arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs, a crime he insists he did not commit. Can he successfully defend himself against the prejudices of the Japanese drug agents and the juggernaut of the Japanese judicial system where suspects are coerced into confessions, and 99% of those charged with crimes are found guilty in a court of law? More crucially, can Rémy keep the “crimes” he did commit from being discovered?

"Midnight Express meets The Usual Suspects meets Lost in Translation."

"Beautiful! An easy read." The Daily Foto

"REALLY REALLY good! I couldn’t stop reading it! (You made me cry, laugh and stay up really really late reading it!) Though I am disappointed that in the end, he got away with so much lying. But I guess there has to be a happy ending…" - Sharon

"I recently stumbled across this, and I have to say that I’m hooked! This is an interesting story told in a great way! I have to ask, how much (if any) is personal experience and how much is fiction? From your accuracy with Japanese language, culture, and geography I’m lead to believe you lived in Japan for a while, like the main character, if not still here. Look forward to more installments." - Bob in Chiba

"This story is fantastic! Keep it up, I’m addicted and anxiously waiting for more!" - Tim

"wow. nicely written!" - Ian

"great!!!!!!!!!!!" - 6rbmp3.ae

"Your writing is brilliant! I am always looking forward to reading your installments! By the way, are you still in Fukuoka?" Bloo

"This rocks! . . . I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found it. Thanks! A definite great read.." - Bill Bartmann

Loved it! Couldn't put it down. A roller coaster of humor to desparation and back telling a inspiring tale from an ex-pat's perspective

Loved it! October 9, 2010

I just finished reading No. 6. I really enjoyed it! I have never been one for prison stories, but this one hooked me & kept my interest throughout. I lost sleep over a few days reading too late. I loved the irony of an ex addict getting busted for something he didn't do. I also enjoyed the peek into the Japanese penal system. I hope that this story wasn't too autobiographical! ;-)

Vonnegut - rest his soul - should be having a brew in his grave if he's somehow heard of Crowe's brilliant tome in the afterlife. The author, in a style reminiscent of the aforementioned literary giant, nicely "time slips" (as the Japanese are wont to put it) through various telling phases of the main character's life from his drug-fuelled trip to Thailand to romantic encounters back on the "home soil" of Japan. Moreover, despite the hedonism of the main character, readers are made to sympathize with the boredom and despair of his stint in a Japanese prison. Will the character be released and if so, will he have learned his lesson? I'm not going to spoil the ending for you - get this book if you want to find out!
