This review is from: High Times Presents Rip This Joint (Audio CD)
These two CD's from 2001 spotlight artists of today and yesterday as selected by the editors of High Times magazine to help you (with the aid of certain substances) to get to a higher place of music awareness. From Canned Heat to Keller Williams, The String Cheese Incident to Mountain, Les Claypool to Tom Tom Club, these two healthy discs contain a lot of music that covers about thirty years of rock and weirdness that ends up in some strange and interesting places.
There are 23 artists/bands represented here over the course of these two discs and I can't say I found it all to be a good trip as some of this just isn't for me but, when I can hear white-hot live version of Humble Pie's "30 Days In The Hole" right along side a great slamgrass smokin' "Headbag" from Leftover Salmon, well it does make an old geezer like myself wanna shake his bones because good jams are the best jams and "Rip This Joint" has got the goods and lot's of them. Al Scheer of moe really gets out there smack dab in the middle of the 11 minute rendition of "Plane Crash" and it's a joy to hear. The fantastic North Mississippi Allstars shread and burn through a fired-up version of "All Night Long" that gets to some real interesting places.
All of these performances were supplied by the kind folks of The King Biscuit radio shows so the quality is high and stays up there from start to finish. I made some good discoveries from these discs and you may find something new and tasty that really smokes from this set. Here are 2 hours and 17 minutes of great jams at a low price so this may be your gateway to become hooked on a brand new band or artist.
But please, listen to these CD's responsibly and wear your seat belt.
