Editorial Reviews

From the Actor

"High Velocity" is what people told us they wanted to see in an entertaining nordic ski movie. This year's theme is outdoor high performance power endurance sport.

Product Description

High Velocity matches the power-endurance of cross-country skiing, and the chilling focus of rifle marksmanship, with the speed of an aerial "pursuit." From cool to calm, the story continues with a solitary winter trek into the "outerspaces," blazing a fresh single track, and crust-cruising through hardwood forests past frost-blasted trees, on route to the mountain summit. Then, rewind the clock to the year 1920 and press play to contrast vintage footage with today's pro-elite skiers as they play on the same trails separated only by time. Fast-forward to 2002 with a preview of extraordinary images of pre-Olympics World Cup racing performances at Soldier Hollow USA, using point-of-view and tracking cameras that allow the viewer to experience the action first hand. "On location, all the athletes, and all the action."

"Technically, it's excellent. This video offers great angles and exciting action shots. It gives you an entertaining look at the world of cross-country skiing. While skiing converts will love it, it's sure to draw others to the sport." - Lynne Bermel, Ranked 3rd overall Ironman Triathlon World Cup

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Production, November 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: High Velocity Skiing and Biathlon [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"High Velocity opens with a Bond/Matrix-like biathlon segment with some incredible helicopter shots, providing some never before seen viewpoints on cross-country skiing. It's a very stylized production, showing off the strong artistic talents of McMahon and Meloche. From there, they switch to a very scenic "off the beaten path" skiing segment. Again, some wonderful helicopter shots during the peak of fall foliage really punctuate the coverage. A third segment features Subaru Factory Team skiers on beautiful mountain trails. Some incredible boot level and ski pole "cam" shots really make you feel like you're on the snow with them! The video wraps up with a preview to the 2002 Winter Olympics by featuring some racing from Soldier Hollow last season. Jaw dropping impressive classical skiing is the highlight to this piece -- you literally can't believe how fast some of the elite skiers are sprinting up steep hills. Sadly, as this segment winds down you realize the actual television coverage this winter won't even come close to this level of excitement. Overall, another great production from David McMahon and Lise Meloche." - Bruce Adelsman, skinnyski.com (reviewed VHS version)

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! An ACTION XC video!, February 8, 2002
This review is from: High Velocity Skiing and Biathlon [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Man, I just bought this video and it ROCKS!

Since I do XC myself like a wildman, I know it's action-packed. But I haven't seen any movie images of the way it really is. Not for decades, anyway...Bill Koch had a neat little flick years ago, but, c'mon, we've been so thirsty for something like this! So, all I have to say is: FINALLY! Finally, a big chunk of our big sport hits the big screen, done right.

This movie has it all, with MTV pacing. Great skiing variety--cruising, racing, playing. And a fully-stoked soundtrack, with plenty of music variety, too.

It's great to see the celebration of the Soldier's Hollow course, where the Olympics are getting ready to start. It's the next best thing to being there!

I really liked the downhill bombin' on the long twisty pitch-changing runs. Down, down, down we go! There is some fine cornering going on, too. I love seeing them bustin some angulation to keep on course at 30mph.

It really let me know why I like racing so much. It's just so cool to get fully dialed in and then let it all hang out on a GREAT course!

My slogan: "XC: Free ski! --Up, down, all around! Anywhere there's snow!"

XC is so much bigger than anyone has shown in media. Other forms of skiing are, I daresay, so limited for most people. This flick shows more of the fun than any other...and I hope there's more where it came from!

Thanks, XCZone! You're in a league of your own!
