5.0 out of 5 stars High Voltage Racing Rocks!
This HO car racing set is light-years ahead of those AFX racers you remember as a kid, the cars move at 12 feet per second(!) and yet still remain on the track, even around the toughest turns and loops the cars move at speeds beyond what seems possible. The track is easy to assemble, but beware, the setup as pictured is quite large and requires some 8' x 8' of space. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars It is only OK
I really was excited about getting this toy for my son and as soon as he opened it, we started putting it together. It was relatively easy to put together but the problems started almost immediately thereafter.
1) One of the slots had lots of dead spots and the car just wouldn't run more than a few feet at a time.
2) The other slot seemed OK, but it still...

The wires which connect to racing controllers are short, easy to damage if you have kids who may pull on the controller in the heat of the moment. The track markings and guard rails glow in the dark and the cars have working headlights which make this set unique. The 360 degree loop included may cause problems for cars other than the ones provided, I bought 4 other cars from the Life-Like Nascar collection and found the car body too long to go around the loop, getting stuck as it tries to climb the loop. This set does provide hours of racing fun and adults who used to play with Aurora AFX will stare in amazement at the speed of these cars, as the kids beg for the controller back...

5.0 out of 5 stars Slot Racer Advice for Buyers and Owners, October 14, 2001

I reviewed this item almost a year back and feel I must make an additional comment. If you have purchased this set or plan to for the holidays be aware when setting it up that Any "dead" track pieces are Not defective! The metal rails may need cleaning (use an ink eraser) to reactivate the section of track to normal; you may also need the same cleaning to the metal brushes under the cars. Once all sections are working correctly, running the cars around the track will keep any further problems from reappearing. Also, When you buy any slot racer set always buy the largest set the company offers if you plan to expand, as purchasing track sections can be costly. Happy Racing!

I told my wife I wanted this for Christmas because I wanted to relive my youth. I used to race AFX cars and loved it when I was young. My 13 year old son and I set up the layout in less than an hour and we had a blast racing the cars. At first the cars stopped at the lap counter but after a few laps the lap counter worked fine. The strong magnets hold the car on the track and this is a great race set. Make sure you you follow the directions and warm up the cars before using them. Keep the track and pickup shoes clean and you will have no problem. Also, snap the track together on a flat surface and put the guard rails on before you assemble the track. I was disappointed in the durability of the cars. After a few hours of racing, one of the cars stopped working and only the head lights worked. I took the body off the chassis and found a wire soldered to the lights and pick up shoe was loose and causing a short. A few days later the head lights blew out all together. I would recommend if you buy additional cars for this set to get fast trackers without headlights.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not durable, January 18, 2002

We got this for Christmas. Its not at all durable.
Track and cars need to be put together "just right".
I had it working quite well for a few days, with the cars
zipping about nicely, but now nothing. The track looks
correctly connected, the cars appear ok, but niether car
on either side work - track is dead Jim.
Very disapointing. I noticed this same manufacturer has
pretty bad reviews for other race car products.

I purchased this product for my 8 year old son.... well, I allow him to play with it sometimes :-). It took about 1 hour to set completely up, but since then my son and I have enjoyed this set for many hours. He loves it, the headlights light-up, the cars are extremely fasssst! and best of all, they rarely spin off the track. Compared to the road race sets I grew up with, these sets are awesome. The cars are amazingly durable, and the track is very easily assembled, with a resounding "Snap" when the pieces are correctly connected. Get this set, it is truly unbelievable.

Thanx
DW & DCL

5.0 out of 5 stars High Voltage Rock n Roll, March 18, 2004

I bought the high voltage speedway about 6 years ago. Everything still works today. A friend of mine also bought one, so we race each other and share our track. Don't buy cars alone, buy the shortest track so you get track more straight! That's after you've bought the high voltage speedway. You get more power packs, MORE CARS, it's always good to have a backup anyway. We clean our track before we race everytime. Clean our cars after each nite of racing. Use a coin for the metal on the track. It's a total blast. Your eyes start buggin out of your head your having so much fun. Age don't matter. Also, forget the layout...make your own layout, and after years of racing, forget about the second level. Keep it flat. We make a new track everytime so it's a learning experience everytime. The best thing to enhance your racing is buy TIRES from your local Ho hobby shop. They have $8 tires, buy the ones that are about 1.25 a pair, the "stock" tires in the set are horrible. These sticky tires are softer, and you think you stick to the track now...buy some tires, and you will email me to thank me. Controller hint: buy or if you have some wire the same thickness or gauge...make the controllers longer. Get another power pack/with triggers. Run two you'll run faster...and when lifting in turns, doesn't give opponent that boost of energy. email me if you need any more tips.

Wow! This is an impressive toy. My two kids and I have been giving our new race track a workout for three days straight and everything works as promised. Compared to the Tyco kits of my generation, this kit is truly mind bending. The magnetic technology to hold the cars to the track is amazing; in fact, the cars can stop upside down on the loop! The track pieces are nicely built, although you may have to use some muscle when first setting up the track pieces. After checking Life-Like Products' web-site, I will definetly add more cars and track pieces to our system as the parts are reasonably priced... Buy this kit; you will get a lot of enjoyment out of the [money]; more than you'd get with almost any other toy for the same price.

I am not very high speed when it comes to this "boy stuff". I can't tell you about the preformance & the race track set up (my husband took care of that)... but I can tell you that I felt like a kid again. I had WAY too much fun. One thing I noticed that was different about this track in comparison to my school year track is that the cars/track are magnetized... thought this was very cool. We haven't had any serious problem with the track and it runs good. BTW: This was given to my 5 year old daughter as a Christmas gift and she enjoys it just as much as my husband and I do!

The set worked very well right out of the box. Very easy to set up, however the wires for the controllers were a bit short. The cars stay on the track very well.

It would also be nice if they gave you some examples of other configurations for the set.

My wife bought this track for me for X-mas. The reason why doesn't matter. What does matter is in order to get this track working properly is perfect manipulation. I removed the loop and made it into the "mountain" against the wall (not too high though) and tried as best I could to keep all track straight with the grooves in the hardwood floor. Elevation is better but this is a big track. Needless to say, the cars don't work too well. Why? Because they have lights. They seem to have a dated body style as well. I went to the hobby store before doing research and got two fast trackers in a twin pack. They worked great on my new high speed track. New Years Eve was a hoot! But one of the cars died already :-( I've tried to find H.O. scale cars that work better but they're pricy. I found a "power tracker" Life-like car for 20 bucks and it's fast. Nascar though. Search online for more stuff at scaleauto.com. I think the AFX Super G2+ and AFX SRT are probably the way to go. Follow the cleaning instructions of the track. It's a pain but it helps. The elevated sections still cause problems... stopping at different levels or flying off the track... ugh! I still have yet to perfect the track or perhaps the track is perfect now and I need to get better at using it. Furthermore, the controllers wires are too, they're connected directly to the track and when both cars race the electrical current seems to short causing one car to fly off the track while the other stops. If I get serious enough to where I want to spend more money I'll buy the necessary connecting parts to adapt to a more efficient starting track with plug in controllers. Also, the ohms a controller uses is important for the type of track simulated. The faster your track, the less ohms you use in the controller. Finally, the power supply only works for up to a distance of 20 feet so if you want to make a super long track keep that in mind. But modify it if you want it to work!!!! And remove the squiggle track... if you don't want to have osteoporosis early...hahaha...
