The frightening world of corporations,

This review is from: High Waters (Paperback)
Nikki Charles of HIGH WATERS by Suzon Tropez, wants to get ahead in her career. She works for Edward Meeker who hates women and thinks they should be at home taking care of children rather than in the work place. He gives good lip service to being her mentor but behind the scenes, he works hard to keep her down. Even though she is the best and the brightest in the company, she never gets that promotion. Finally, sick and tired of the nonsense, she seeks positions at other companies that will pay more and reward her hard work. She keeps it a secret because she knows Edward will do something to ruin it for her. Edward threatens Nikki's co-worker, Sharon, with a loss of her job if she doesn't find out where Nikki is going. Sharon's husband is out of work and she is supporting her family. Will she cave in and tell on Nikki? Or will she dig deep and find the moral fortitude to ignore Edward and his threats?
This is a book that would appeal to those in the corporate world and are interested in the intrigue that goes on there. I found that there were too many details about issues that weren't really germane to the story. It tended to distract rather than add to Nikki's issues. The tension didn't begin to build until the final chapters of the book. There were editing issues also, especially switching of tenses, causing confusion. If those areas could be cleared up, it could be an interesting book. Reviewed by Alice Holman of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers |
