This is not a book. It reads like a 10 year old's first attempting to write in third person. Every sentence short and has the persons name in it. There is almost no description of things and when there is it is repeated over and over. I paid for this book and am very disappointed. I love that Amazon puts by our reviews that we purchased the item we are reviewing. I think now with rip offs like this that we need to add info of the legitimacy of the publisher. You've been warned.

May be a good story if you can tolerate the writing,

I found myself wondering if I had somehow purchased the wrong book after reading the reviews for this book. Almost every paragraph reiterates something from the previous paragraph. I found myself thinking "you already told me that" non-stop. The same description is tagged to a character or item repeatedly in the same paragraph and again in the next, and the next. At first I thought maybe it was just to make the story longer, but no.
The wizard is old, next sentence, the wizard is old. The light is dim, next paragraph, the light is dim. Every book has explainations that are repeated or descriptions that reappear here and there. I just couldn't put the poor writing aside long enough to get interestest in the story. It's not as if I didn't give it a chance. I made it to location 1096 of 8913 before my eye rolling gave me a head ache and I deleted it from my Kindle. Take a pass on this one, not worth your time even if you like the genre, as I do.

Really enjoyed this read. Scully has created something special here, loved it. I am always looking for something different, a book with some innocence to it, a story with heart and having people you can relate to. I would strongly suggest this book to those who like a bit of romance and have depth in their souls. This is classic fantasy.
Negatives would be the repetition in the descriptions of the characters. If you can look past this minor flaw, it is a good solid story that has potential to grow into a great series. I plan to add the next titles to my list of reading materials and look forward to Scully's future works. Keep up the great work Agent Scully! R Paradie

I actually like the book. Yes it is derivative and very poorly written and not proofread at all--"he sounds horse" is just a modest example. And why everything is narrated in the present tense is a mystery I'll never be able to solve. Yet the story itself is actually good. Yes, it is derivative; yes, the intrepid band is composed of all races including a female elf--by the way is "elvin" correct? I would think "elven" or "elvish"--oh well. And, as others have noted, there is much repetition. Have I mentioned that there is much repetition? :)Why then have I not consigned this book to the trash heap of literary history? Well, as I mentioned above, the story is pretty good. So much so that I have already purchased the next two volumes. My reasoning is that for 99 cents I can put up with the juvenile style, misspellings, clumsy expressions and anachronisms like "okay" which really does not roll easily off the tongue of a High Wizard. My rating for style would be one star and for story 3 stars. Thus my composite rating of 2 stars.

I am impressed by the reviewers who actually finished any of the books in this series! It is by far the most poorly written books I have bought. I now understand why the first in the series costs only $0.99 and I am grateful for this. It is nothing but a succession of little barely sketched mini events with characters who only have names, but no depth. I could not finish reading this book or any of its successors. I wish there were a few minus stars as it does not rate even one.

I simply loved this story. I fell in love with the young elvin wizard and her charming grandfather. This story has a fairy tale feel, inocence and love. Great first book and the others are only better than this original. Finished the final book the other day and I only want more! Looks like I may have to wait for a bit, Scully is working on a new series with plans to revisit Silvinesh afterwards, some three book deal with Silver Lightning Publishing for an Urban Fantasy of some sorts. Like all good fantasy authors, they keep you wanting more, I'm hooked!

This is the worst book I have ever finished, I still can't believe that I did finish it. The writing was awful and I'm thinking that a 12 year old wrote it or at least a virgin because the love scenes were a joke. Why do adults in this book get "embarrassing red" every time they talk about love? It seems the author has no clue how adults talk and live. It also had some very bad attempts at humor. The author would also repeat the same thing over and over again just with different words. The book would have been at least 100 pages less if he didn't repeat what he just wrote. Additionally the book would of been about 300 more page if the author would of used proper description and detail in this book.
It had a interesting story, with some good writing it would of been a good book. Pass on this even if you love fantasy like I do. You've been warned!

This is a great story of magic, wizards, dragons, and adventure! It's easy to read, and the characters draw you into the story very quickly! The author has done a wonderful job of providing many unexpected twists and turns, so you never know exactly where the next adventure is taking you!! The magic is engaging, and I found myself trying to use these white wizard magic commands. It's good against evil powers, and you are rooting for the good to always succeed!! But will it? As the main characters, William and Alentia try to unravel the mystery of the past, it is building on the future. The story ending has a cliff hanger which leaves the reader enough, but waiting for more. Being the first book of the High Wizard series, I can't wait to get into the second book to find out more about what is really going on!

R. A. Scully's book, "The High Wizard of Silvinesh" reflects the writer's love of fantasy. There are enough common elements for the casual reader to relate to, while at the same time, there are very creative new aspects. If you enjoy the genre, you'll be pleased with this book.
