5.0 out of 5 stars Concise review of neuroanatomy
This is a great little book! I used it in medical school, and now that I'm a neurology resident, I *still* use it. Has enough depth to be useful, but not overwhelming. Easy to read. Tends to cover the pimpable/testable highlights. Good summary tables.

3.0 out of 5 stars good review if you have a good foundation
This is a good book for people who need to review for the boards and have a good foundation of neuroanatomy. If you don't have solid footing the lack of explanations might confuse you. On the other hand it is quite concise so it is easy to get through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it for Step I 'cause First Aid doesn't cut it, September 27, 2005

First Aid is money for most subjects, but it's weak on neuro. This book is a very good balance between too little and too much for this overwhelming subject. The High Yield series keeps improving in quality, and in the newest edition is even better at showing clinical scenarios and integrating other subjects like pathology or physiology (I used an older version and it's still pretty good, though).

I would like to say this is great for course work, but at least at my school they tended to test on obscure minituae hard to find anywhere.

This is all you should need for Step, which does feature a decent dose of neuro (about 10, more like 20 questions). It's also very good at developing as essential foundation of knowledge applicable for future use, which sometimes gets lost when scrambling to cram for course exams.

My big qualm is the pricing. It's a thin book, not a main text. Use the library, borrow it from a friend, split the cost, etc. High Yield makes a nice line of books but they need to trim prices for medical students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for USMLE review, March 28, 2001

This is the book for Step 1 USMLE review. It covers all the essential details of this heavily tested subject. Must be coupled with an atlas since recognizing gross pictures and as well as comfort with imaging is vital for the USMLE. For coursework, it is advisable to use a more substantial book. Neuroanatomy is a tough subject that cannot be crammed. It is essential to lay down a strong base during the semester.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have, June 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: High-Yield™ Neuroanatomy (High-Yield Series) (Paperback)
This book has all the neuroanatomy and associated clinical scenarios that I was tested on for Step 1. The mini atlas of brain anatomy is a guaranteed question. The clinical info about brain/brainstem/spinal cord injuries is also covered very well in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Neuroanatomy Review, November 17, 2000

This book is amazing!! I advise every medical student to buy it as soon as you read this, it's really worth it! It's concise and well organized. It extracts the most important info on each topic, supported by many diagrams & imaging techniques which are clear & stick in your memory. When the author deals with a clinical relevance (e.g. a disease), he explains its pathophysiology which helps you to understand rather than memorize it.

5.0 out of 5 stars How could you understand neuroanatomy without it?, September 17, 2000
This review is from: High-Yield™ Neuroanatomy (High-Yield Series) (Paperback)
Neuroanatomy is a new language. It's by far the most difficult class of the first year of medical school. This book will get you through. It's full of figures and outlines that allow you to hammer home the simple stuff, so that the foundation will be laid for the harder stuff they throw at you in the classroom and on your exams. It's all you need for the USMLE step 1. If you want to be successful, buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for Step 1, January 2, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The USMLE has become increasingly focused on neuro over the past few years, and First Aid has become more and more inadequate with respect to neuro. This book is a great way to prepare for the neuro questions on Step 1. It's a slender book and is thus a very quick read --- heck, I'm a slow reader and finished it in 2.5 days. At the beginning of the book are several images of brain sections, with arrows pointing to the most important structures. The book also has radiologic images (MRA, MRI, CT) which were very helpful for me when I took Step 1 --- actually, I remember having 3 distinct questions with an accompanying MRA image. The book does a good job of explaining the basic function/organization of the different parts of the brain in a concise manner. There were a few sections that I thought were a little too detailed for Step 1 --- especially the cerebellum section. Overall, though, it's a wonderful book and it will help you to nail the neuro questions on the USMLE.

This book is very high yield and helped me ace the class and do really well on the board exam. One thing that this book doesnt have that is on the NBME is headaches, sleep disorders, and cell death. Other than that it has everything u need to ace the class. I highly recommend it!!!
