4.0 out of 5 stars Good Brief Review of Pharmacology, April 10, 2008
This review is from: High-Yield™ Pharmacology (High-Yield Series) (Paperback)
I read the second edition of this book, which is pretty outdated by this point. There is basically no information on biologics (antibodies, etc.) in this edition, so you'll have to read about those somewhere else. Also, you should be aware that the book is in an outline format. That's not my favorite style, but it does make the book very quick and easy to read. You could easily finish it in half a day. The other good thing about the outline layout is that there is plenty of space to annotate it with all of the newer drugs and drug classes, which is what I did. The book also doesn't go very deeply into the mechanisms of how the drugs work. But I guess a lot of that had to be sacrificed to keep it short and manageable.

One thing that I think could be improved about the book is that the tables are not the most reader-friendly. They contain a lot of useful information, but there needs to be some lines or something separating the categories. Also, maybe I was just too rough on it, but some of the pages in my copy started coming out and I had to glue them back in. Overall though, I liked this book and found it helpful. Probably the most useful feature is the index in the back, which tells you what class each drug is in. That's really helpful if, say, you're trying to remember what clozapine is. You look in the index, and it tells you that clozapine is an atypical antipsychotic, along with which section of the book discusses that drug class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, concise review, October 6, 2006

This is a great review book for pharmacology. It's concise and easy to carry. It has everything laid out in outline format, with the important facts in bold, so you can read through it quickly. Highly recommended!!
