Bought this to copy large files to external drives.

Downloaded the latest driver from Highpoint's website.
After installation there was still an Unknown Device in Device Manager.
(Running Win7 x64)

Ended up registering card, and searching FAQ on support for the unknown
"Base System Device." There is a download link for the PLX bridge chip.
It's called PLE8609_Win_6.5.0.0.zip.

After downloading this file, the card works perfectly.

Now why isn't this file on the included CD, or the download link for
the latest driver? I don't know.

Çopying 200GB to (2) Lacie external drives at the same time,
and was able to maintain between 80-100 MB/s for the duration.

On a side note ... you can't use long cables for USB powered drives.
I had to use the supplied cables, otherwise the drives would click.

Purchased because I wanted faster transfer speeds for my memory cards. With this card and a new card reader (see below), I now have an average transfer rate of 2GB per minute. Note that transfer rates are also influenced by the type of memory card you use. My cards are all CF cards with varying speeds.
I'm very happy with this purchase!

It's a bit pricey, but this card is well-made, installs easily, and is perfect for adding USB 3.0 capabilities to your system! The 20-Pin Connector is why I chose this over the 1144A model. I wanted the 20-Pin Connector to go with the Atech Flash Pro-37U USB 3.0 True SuperSpeed 3.5" Internal / External Flash Memory Card Reader. I purchased the card reader directly from AFT for $49.99, but you can get it for a few dollars less through Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Atech-Pro-37U-SuperSpeed-Internal-External/dp/B006OY4I8G/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1358013146&sr=1-1&keywords=PRO-37U+Media+Card+Reader. This Card Reader is very well made, and also EXCELLENT Customer Service!

Upon installation of the HighPoint Card, I experienced an issue that left a mark in the Windows Device Manager. I contacted HighPoint, and they explained in very easy terms what needed to be done. The fix was fast and easy, and this card works perfectly, with no issues.

This is not a full product review at this time, I will update this review after comprehensive testing. This HighPoint RocketU 1144C doesn't work with the Seagate Backup Plus 4TB desktop external drive. It won't allow benchmarks because it won't allow writing to the drive. When you try to write, the drive will disconnect. I would blame it on the Seagate drive, except that the drive works perfectly on the same machine with an Inateck KT4004 USB 3.0 card installed. The drive also works perfectly (but slow) when attached to an internal USB 2.0 port.

I contacted Seagate and HighPoint Technologies about the issue. Seagate offers no help at all, and HighPoint blames Apple's native drivers for the ASmedia chipset. I've filed a bug report with Apple for now. I plan to get a bare 4TB drive and place it in a TOURO enclosure for testing.

HighPoint Tech. did say that this card works well with both WD 4TB and Hitachi 4TB external desktop USB 3.0 drives.

I wanted a fast USB 3.0 card to install in Dell PowerEdge T620 servers for my clients. This gives me the speed (about 4 times USB 2.0 speed) and allows me to connect external hard drives for copying large amounts of data (backups). I didn't really need 4 ports, but it is nice to have them if I need them.

Style Name: 2-USB 3.0 & 2-SATA 3 Ext. Ports Verified Purchase
I recently sold my "Hackintosh" and bought a 2nd-hand 2009 Mac Pro. I have several USB 3.0 and/or eSATA external devices, neither of which the Mac Pro supports. This card seemed the best option out there, so I bought it. Installation was no problem, and the first boot after installation was glitch-free. However, only the USB 3.0 ports are working, so far. None of my eSATA devices is recognized by the system. Some of my external drives have both ports; the Mac Pro "sees" the drives when they're plugged in via USB 3.0, but doesn't when plugged in via eSATA.

I also learned that my USB 3.0 Seagate 3tb external drive gets dropped if the system goes to sleep. I have to disconnect it and reconnect before the system will recognize it again.

Hoping that some Googling will discover some helpful hints to get the eSATA ports working. If not, I'll have to buy a Newertech eSATA card and take up another slot.

UPDATE: It's now August 2014, and I've been quite happy with this card. Downloading and installing HighPoint's driver solved the eSATA problems. They lose a star for not providing the driver with the card, or even including a note to let you know you have to download the driver.

Oh, and the Seagate external drive? The problem was the external enclosure's interface board, not the HighPoint controller card. I yanked the drive out, put it in a different box, and it works fine.

It seems like that is information that should have been included on the product packaging, website and your marketing materials. It might cut down on product returns and customer frustration.
