This review is from: Higher Expectations: Promoting Social Emotional Learning and Academic Achievement in Your School (Social Emotional Learning, 3) (Paperback)
Ray Pasi has nailed it. Anyone who believes the school has a holistic responsibility to the child owes it to themselves to read this primer on social and emotional learning practices. Consistently tied to academics and providing useful real-world anecdotes, references to relevant research, and illustrative arguments, the book is an easy read with accessible language and a more conversational tone than some of the more stolid and "eduspeak" dependent tomes on the subject of the whole child. It lends itself naturally to the secondary level, as opposed to Becky Bailey's works which tend to apply to primary levels. You can take the results of Dr. Pasi's work as a testimony to the effectiveness of these concepts. It is a must-have on any teacher leader's bookshelf, though it won't stay there for long. You'll be loaning it to colleagues constantly.
