5.0 out of 5 stars Can't find TA's "losing my religion" anywhere else!!!!
This cd is worth the price for just Tori Amos' haunting and beautiful rendition of "Losing My Religion".......nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Soundtrack That Was Near Prophetic, December 24, 2007
By
As one other reviewer said, this soundtrack (as well as the film that spawned it) was way ahead of its time and many of the topics covered in these songs are still relevant today!

The style of this film was also ahead of its time. It isn't pure R & B, rap, rock or any other style of music. Its all of these things. In truth, this soundtrack kind of represents what American means.....a melting pot. That's what makes this soundtrack so unique.

My favorites are "Higher" by Ice Cube and "All I Ask Of You" by Raphael Saddiq but nearly all of the tracks are worth a listen. Much like New Jack City, this soundtrack was spreading a message that is still just as relevant in 2007 as it was in 1995. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking, August 3, 2005
One of the words that can best describe this albums content is variety. It may bounce around too much for some people. My favorite song on it is Butterfly by Tori Amos, but I like the heavier stuff too, like the Rage Agains The Machine track. Check the lineup and if you see enough artists that you like, get it. Otherwise pick up a different CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars It is ahead of its time, April 24, 2006
i mean seriously it really is.a soundtrack this diverse was unheard of during the 90's.Though ironically this represents the diversity of that awesome decade verry well.theirs something here for everybody.ZHANE,ice cube, liz phair, rage against the machine, brand new heavies.you would be hard pressed to find a more diverse soundtrack from this era.

as far as the songs themselves their actualy good, and i have nothing really bad to say about them.though i must admit tori amous isn't for me.and i belive people had the same problem with this album.it was probably TOO diverse for its own good, but nevertheless a good album.

4.0 out of 5 stars A melting Pot of Music!, May 24, 2011
By
Caramel (Reseda, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Higher Learning (Audio CD)
This is one of the most diverse soundtracks that I have ever listened to. It has a bit of everything we have rock, quiet storm, rap, and some R&B. When I first heard this album my favorite song was Raphaael Sadiqus I Ask of You. It was the strongest of the RB songs displayed on the album. But after listening to the haunting beautiful voice of Tori Amos. I have to say that she stoled the show. I am a child of the 90s and I like all types of music from heavy metal to the groovy sounds of R&B and Hip Hop. In fact my heart and soul is R&B but I have to say when you listen to Tori Amos, Liz Phair, Eve Plum those songs just have to inspire you. In this album I was not too keen on the rap with the exception of Grimm. We get a taste of early Ice Cube and Outkast but I felt that the rap suffered a bit more. Everyone else was point but again what makes this sound track is Tori Amos, Raphael Saadique, Eve's Plum, and Rage Against the Machine. I read some of the reviews and alot of people did not like the fusion of rap, r&b, quiet storm, alternative rock, etc. But to me that is what America is. In fact I was just looking at my IPOD and I noticed that I do have alot of rock, pop, and metal music so I guess this album is a relfection of what America is today. A huge Melting pot of music. And despite the fact that I am not to into the new pop these days I will say that I would not want it any other way.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't contain all the songs in the film...where thehell is Sons of Elvis??, March 30, 2011

Alex kidd "bob" (sydney Australia) - See all my reviews
If you've seen the movie you'll remember the scene at the party where the girl is sexual assaulted, well the music playing then was "Formaldehyde" by Sons of Elvis and I'm highly displeased so I am giving this album a 1 out of 5

4.0 out of 5 stars "Just a photograph, kinda makes me laugh...", July 15, 2009
Higher Learning Soundtrack is great because of three artist: Tori Amos, Liz Phair, and Eve's Plumb. I love Tori's song Butterfly and cover of R.E.M.'s Losing My Religion. This is the soundtrack where I was first introduced to Indie rock queen, Liz Phair - the song Don't Have Time is absolutely amazing and comical. Eve's Plumb was a good band - the song Eye is very strange but good. The rest of the tracks I don't care for, not my cup of tea. But worth purchasing for Tori, she's one of my favorite songwriters.
