3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I hoped
I bought this pedometer because it has all the features that I want. Love the pulse rate monitor, but you get a different reading depending on which finger you use. Not really an issue since it's supposed to be just a guide. The biggest problem I have is that once attached to my pants, all I have to do is turn sideways, wiggle my body, move my leg up and down or any...

This review is from: Highgear Fitware PR Pulse Reader Pedometer with Watch, Alarm, and Chronograph (Apparel)
A 44-year-old woman that trying to increase her overall fitness level writes this review. I have used a number of different pedometers in the past and have been dissatisfied with my purchases. I purchased this product because I liked the fact that this pedometer would allow me to monitor my pulse. I find my heart rate monitor to be annoying and a sweat magnet around my torso and was looking for a more simple solution.

I have summarized my observations of this product below:

Pros:

1. The pulse monitor appears to be accurate and is fairly quick to (under 5 seconds) give a reading

2. The step counter is more accurate than pedometers I have had in the past

3. Comes with a second button battery

4. Allows you to program in your age, sex, weight so that it can more accurately calculate your calories

5. Reasonably small size

6. Easy to zero out the counters to begin the day

7. Has a clock function which is handy if you don't wear your watch all the time

Cons:

1. You can't put this item in your pocket and get an accurate reading (mine stopped counting, apparently one of the buttons was accidentally depressed in my pocket)

2. Programming is tedious and not intuitive, you need to use the directions

3. Directions could be more clear

Overall I recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a pedometer and a pulse monitor. It is not the perfect solution, but it is a fairly good solution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neato, but really really tiny buttons, November 3, 2006

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Highgear Fitware PR Pulse Reader Pedometer with Watch, Alarm, and Chronograph (Apparel)
I bought this for my mom to encourage her to go walking more often like she said she wanted to, but when I brought her this pedometer, she thought it was neat, but too complicated. I read all the instructions and figured out how to operate it, but it just has too many functions and really tiny buttons with kind of complicated ways to get to all those functions. So, she has never used it. Oh well, it was innexpensive, it worked just fine, but someting more simple would of been better.

Not really an issue since it's supposed to be just a guide. The biggest problem I have is that once attached to my pants, all I have to do is turn sideways, wiggle my body, move my leg up and down or any other minor movement and the pedometer increases. One day while at my desk I put on 4000 steps!! The direction book doesn't have any info on how to change this so, I don't really have an accurate account of my steps. If your goal is to get in 10,000 steps a day, this isn't really the tool to use because of its sensitivity. If you're only using it during your workout, it's a good tool.
