My husband and recently purchased the new Highland 1038900 Black 15 cu.ft. Rainproof Car Top Bag with Storage Sack's. We ordered two for our trip 500 mile trip to Ohio. They were inexpensive, easy to assemble and kept our things dry and safe the whole trip. We are very pleased with our purchase. Saved us SO much room for traveling.

We purchased this at the last minute, prior to our summer trip in a vacation home where we needed to bring massive amounts of food, paper supplies, activities and beach toys (enough for 3 families!). Just days before departing, we determined we either needed to bring a 2nd vehicle or buy a car topper. We decided on the Highland, b/c it was water proof and really well priced. Having never had or shopped for one of these before, we really didn't look at any other aspect.

We packed it FULL - we were SHOCKED at how much it would hold!! It seemed the space was endless. However, being that we did it "our way" rather than follow the directions, we packed it in our living room floor and then man-handled it out to the car and up onto the roof. UGH - carrying it and lifting it up onto the SUV proved to be nearly impossible. Nearly... we did get it in place and strapped on.

My car did NOT have the cross bars on the roof, so we attached it only to the side bars of the roof rack. Between the weight and the heavy vinyl texture (kind-of sticky) of the bag, it didn't budge at all during the 6 hr drive of interstate and back roads; even during the 2-3 hrs of pounding rain. AND everything inside was perfectly dry!

This is a well-made soft rooftop carrier that holds a lot of stuff. Only drawback is the difficulty loading the carrier. The cover only unzips on two sides so the top cannot just be folded back out of the way to load. Would be much better with a zipper on three sides.

I purchased this product to take on a mission trip from Tidewater, VA flying to Spokane, WA and then to drive 8 hours to the Blackfeet Reservation,in Browning, MT. It is compact and light, so it is easy to pack or even carry on a plane. It is easy to open and secure to the roof of a vehicle. It's roomy and when you are done with it, it folds right back up into the lunch box size bag. Incredible product for a great price.

First experience with a car-top carrier. Easy to install, easy to load and unload. Looks and feels durable. A very good value when compared to the leading competitor in the soft carrier field, sold by Thule, which costs nearly 3 times as much.
A couple tips:1. Secure loose ends of straps with twist ties (2 per strap) or noise will drive you nuts; 2. Put carrier on top of vehicle while empty and load it. We used plastic totes, primarily, for ease of loading, but the construction does appear to be rain-proof. We had only a light rain while carrier sat on vehicle overnight, so not a real test.

We used this for our vacation a few months back and it was wonderful! It was easy to attached to my Saturn Outlook which already has luggage bars on top. It did slide back a little bit, but no big deal to us. We knew it wasn't going anywhere. This added a lot of storage space so we had more comfort in the car. I highly recommend it!

We purchased this bag to carry things back from Maryland to Florida. Had to put crossbars on our Santa Fe because it did not have them plus the rails it does have are not raised so you can't slip a tie strap under them. The bag attached to the cross bars pretty easily but we also purchased the heavier longer tie downs by master lock just to be sure. The only problem we encountered was the Velcro tabs that are supposed to provide a cover for the zipper would not stay closed. It rained for most of the trip so some of the things got damp. Thankfully we made the trip in one day so we were able to dry them out before they were ruined. I did look at other comments and other people did not have this problem so it may be we had to much stuff in the bag for it to close properly. It allowed us to bring back a lot of stuff we may have had to just leave behind so I am happy with it.

This vinyl cartop carrier did an awesome job of keeping a huge load of luggage and Christmas gifts DRY and TOGETHER from South Carolina to Texas during a sloppy snowstorm, with lots of snow accumulation accumulation on it. Then on the way back, the heavy rain did not affect anything, either - "snug and dry" should be their motto. (Our only generic complaint was that using a cartop carrier caused a big drop in auto mileage (almost 6 mpg). We know that the wind and the extra weight being hauled (2 families' & all their stuff) contributed a lot, too.) We HIGHLY recommend this product. (re: Highland 1038900 Black 15 cu.ft. Higland Rainproof Car Top Bag worked well on a trip from L. I. N.Y. to So. Fla. It kept a fold-up Eagle Kyack dry and the fold-down oars fit inside; along with a beach chair (small);also, bedding folded and put in plastic bags. Everything stayed compact on my A.H. Mini Clubman. I did not tie it to racks since I didn't have them. I ordered the recommended straps and fastened them tighly accross the outside roof bringing the straps inside the roof. ( I was warned my previous reviews that the attached straps might break in the wind.) The front windows went all the way up. The neat thing is when unpacked it goes back to the small sq. (just as it arrived) The storage takes up little room. This gets an A plus from me. It even matched my black and white Mini with cherboard accessories. I recommend this product highly. Also, if you had to travel some distance by plane; it is a check-in baggage size and would, in my opinion, go the distance.

A little apprehensive due to mixed reviews, but my entire family took a road trip and we needed more room inside our Acadia for people. This car top carrier performed flawlessly the entire trip (1900 miles). We don't have crossbars on the roof, only side bars. No problem for this carrier, it stayed in place at all speeds and through windstorms, passed through heavy wind and rain during desert thunderstorms. No problems with the zippers. This carrier can hold a large amount of luggage (7 people for 9 days). We found it easiest to pack the carrier and then wrestle it to the top of the car. Highly recommend.
