On our way home two of the straps pulled away from the canvas side, and one detached from the latch and became all frayed in the wind.
Brian J Koenen
Worse than that, there was a hole in the bag and that's how everything got wet.

We purchased this product after searching through many choices, needing it for a 10-day vacation. It didn't even last ONE day. We drove 10 hours and by the 5th hour noticed a hole rubbed in the main portion by one of the straps. We thought duct tape would help and prepared to fix the hole when we arrived at our first night's stay.

When we removed the topper from the van, it displayed holes in several places and shredded material all over the bottom portion. It was worthless. We were in a somewhat remote part of the country and had to completely alter our plans that evening to search for a new topper in order to continue our trip. We spent $200 on something else that lasted our entire trip and shows no signs of wearing out.

The makers need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Horrible item, even for the price. Used once from NJ to NC and bag ripped in places that were not stressed by luggage. Was not able to use on the return trip. Garbage. In process of returning whats left of the bag.

I was worried about getting a top carrier, but this one worked alright. I should have tightened the bungi cord on top better because it flapped around a lot and caused it to rip, but it was my own fault. It was a small tear and I've already repaired it. No flapping, and I like how it gets really compact. The plastic on the inside shed everywhere too, but maybe due to the flapping. The only other downfall was the lack of instructions. Now that I know how it works, I have all the confidence that it is a good top carrier.

I wasn't sure which one to buy...hard or soft. I think the hard opens and closes more easily, but after our 17 day trip this soft one folded back up into the box and went on a garage shelf, neat and clean!

Easy to use. Plenty of room for 3 suitcases and dirty clothes bags.

Rain proof, as far as I know, 17 days in Canada and upper Northwest, lots of rain, no wet clothes.

Straps easy to my side bars. This unit straps to side or front/back bars.

THANK YOU!

We bought this for a week long trip through 11 states. It was a mostly driving trip and we stopped the first few nights to camp out. Our tent and bed were in this carrier and while it held up to our first stop, the next morning it poured and everything got wet. Worse than that, there was a hole in the bag and that's how everything got wet. I will say that if it were stuffed to capacity, so that no part of the bag could move in the wind, it may have held up better. However at some point the strap ripped off from the bag on one side. If I could go back and do it over again, I would get a hard top carrier for our needs. I would not recommend this for any extended driving trips.

We bought this to hold things as we moved across the country (1000+ miles). We did not purchase a mat for underneath but I think that would help what issues we did have be minimal.

Overall we are really pleased with this product. It is not waterproof but is fairly weatherproof. We drove through some pretty nasty storms on our 1000+ mile drive from PA to OK. We put our luggage in plastic garbage bags to ensure they did not get any water in them. When we opened this up there was minimal water inside. There was some but it was not as much as I thought there could be. So I was pleased with that.

We only have the two side bars and no front or back cross bars so the straps for front/back would hit the roof and that was rather annoying. Also, it sounded like it would be sliding occasionally or lifting up while driving even though we had it as tight as we could. But it lasted the 1000+ mile trip. The straps and everything held up really well.

We had been concerned about the straps and other portions of other reviews we had read but decided to take a chance due to the good price and mostly good reviews. It did not fail us. I would recommend getting a mat to help it grip more to the roof and maybe lessen the moving sounds and such. But other than that we are pleased with our purchase.

After one use (which happened to be in a rain storm), the interior vinyl lining came completely apart and stuff got wet. Everything was down snug with bungies and straps. I would keep looking if I were you (especially considering that another buyer had this same problem).
