Ach! T'were pipin' music I were wantin', not ELO does "Rebel Piper". I mean, disco bagpipes? Good lord. Yes, the cheap-hotel-lounge-rock-band backups were grim indeed; the full orchestra numbers weren't much better. In fact, the only reason I didn't give this one star was because a (very) few of the selections weren't TOO bad.
Unless you want Highland/Second-rate Hollywood fusion, then avoid this gobbler at all costs.

If you are a lover of bagpipes , as I am, this is the BEST cd you will likely purchase in a VERY long time! The content and selection of music is superb and very enjoyable , as it was to see them live at perth recently! Thankyou for bringing this class of cd to my attention.

As a competition pipeband player, I was a little skeptical of a military band, but this was very nicely done! They give a nice lineup of tunes and they spice it up with added instrumentation on a majority of the tunes. I particularly like what they did with Amazing Grace at the end of the CD. Be sure to pick up the DVD too. Seeing the band play at the various sites is priceless.

If you've ever been to Scotland or are a fan of the country/music, this will take you back and have you crying. It's very moving and melodic, yet uplifting. It's a wonderful CD.

This is a very nicely done cd of the Scots Guards, playing with Military band and their Ceilidh Band. There's a good mix of music on this cd from Traditional to Movie (Braveheart, Titanic, etc). This cd has great recording quality and the pipers are together throughout the cd. I only give this cd a 4 star rating due to my own preferences for pipe music (I'm not a fan of The Castle Walls, The Rebel Piper, or Soldier, Soldier period!)

This 1999 album equally moves me as does the "Spirit of the Glen - Journey" album from 2008. The songs in this album contain Scottish and Irish tunes as well as some movie songs. Their coordination of bagpipe and orchestra on these songs creates a whole new genre (as far as I am concerned) to which the GHB is elevated in the upper echelon of classical music - yes, GHB music IS classical. The bagpipe was known to exist as far back as the Roman Empire. Check it out if you don't believe me. There are a lot of people that think the GHB is nothing but noise to be tolerated for a couple of minutes then driven away like a leper. The men will change your mind if you will listen to the out-takes and listen with your heart's ear. I would recommend the RSDG albums to anyone who loves music that encompasses new techniques and combinations of instruments with songs most everyone has heard in the past. Give it a shot. I feel you will enjoy it as much as I do - unless you are one of those who think the bagpipe is a screech owl being abused.

THIS IS A GREAT CD! IT IS A WONDERFUL MIX OF MODERN AND TRADITIONAL, AND OUR WHOLE FAMILY HAS ENJOYED IT. I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY HUSBAND,THOUGH, AND HE SAYS THE ONLY WAY IT COULD BE BETTER WOULD BE TO HAVE AC/DC DO A FEW SONGS WITH THEM! (FYI: THEY HAVE BAGPIPES ON SOME OF THEIR SONGS BY THE WAY. REALLY COOL.:0))

Excellent snare drumming...,

...the best I've heard in a long time. Overall an excellent album, as with most of the albums of its type there is room for improvement in the recording quality but found this to be by far the best of the bagpipe albums we were able to listen to clips from on Amazon.

Comment on Highland Cathedral,

This CD was a gift for a grandson who is a 15 year old talented player of the bagpipes for his school pipes and drums band. He is in line for being made pipe major. He thought the CD was an entertaining collation and is likely to enjoy and learn a good deal from it in the months ahead. It arrived quickly and we have been completely satisfied with the service. We would add that goes for literally everything we have ever ordered form Amazon.
