Back insert from Highland Groom, by Hannah Howell. "Sir Diarmot MacEnroy, deciding his illegitimate children need a mother and his keep needs a proper lady, now stands before the alter with a gentle bride he hopes is too shy to disrupt his life or break his heart. The nuptials, however, are interrupted by the appearance of a flame-haired beauty carrying two babies, boldly claimin that she is his wife and mother of his two infant sons. Armed with her seven very large brothers, she has come to demand her due.

Having waiting one year for the return of the handsome laird who wedded her, bedded her, and then disappeared, Ilsa Campbell MacEnroy takes matters into her own hands and sets out to reclaim the man she briefly and passionately loved. Stunned by his denial, her heart softens when she learns of the injury that has ravaged his memory. Now, she faces the nearly impossible task of conquering his past--and hi s fierce reluctance to share his heart. Though desire flares hot and wild between them, it will take more to win his trust. It will take the magic touch of a woman in love.."

My Review

There's an error in that back insert, her family name is Cameron, not Campbell. Ilsa tries her best to gain Diarmot's trust. Diarmot has a hard time trusting a woman since his late wife was a lying, cheating, and mad woman. Attempt had been made for his life after he leaves Ilsa to return home where he has been attacked brutally that caused a memory loss. He thinks her brothers and herself are still suspects for wanting to get him murdered. However, he slowly realizes she is innocent of the crime when she was poisoned. Her family along with his tries to find the murder before Ilsa, Diarmot, or family are the next victim. Diarmot's trust and love grows as he gets to know and live with her. I loved the book, loved all the characters, and the story. Hannah Howell is a great author, so don't miss out on any of her books!

3.0 out of 5 stars Witty and entertaining - 3.5 stars, May 24, 2006
This review is from: Highland Groom (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Plagued with recurring dreams about a scarlet elf and a troop of fiery demons, Diarmot MacEnroy wakes up on the day of his wedding thinking that all will be well. But before the priest even begins the ceremony, an angry redhead walks in with a half dozen murderous brothers in tow. To make matters worse, she claims to be his wife, and the twins she carries in her arms his children.

After waiting a year for Diarmot to come back to them, Ilsa Campbell has decided to confront the man who seemed to have deserted her and their twins. Never in her wildest imagination did she expect to find him at the altar ready to exchange vows with another woman. Stunned, Ilsa is initially uncertain whether she should believe his claim of not knowing who she is. But after bitter words were said, and a few punches exchanged, Ilsa knows that Diarmot is telling the truth. And there begins her battle to win his love once again...

After finding out what happened to Diarmot after he left their village, Ilsa realizes that it will take a lot of patience to get through Diarmot. She knows that honesty is the only way to gain his affection, but how can she gain it from a man who is so consumed with suspicions? As for Diarmot, when he was left for dead a year ago by an unexpected and unknown attack, he has been suspicious of almost everyone around him. He wants to let go of his doubts, but he is afraid that trusting another woman once again after his abysmal first marriage with an unfaithful wife will not only hurt his pride, but also cause him his life.

HIGHLAND GROOM is another entertaining addition to Hannah Howell's delightful Highland series. Featuring the wit and passion that I have come to like from the other books in the series, it features delightful characters that you cannot help but like. Ilsa is a courageous tiny bundle of joy and the perfect match for Diarmot, who happens to be the brother of the hero from HIGHLAND BRIDE. Though the plot is nothing new, I still enjoyed reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Heartwarming, June 24, 2006
This review is from: Highland Groom (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my second time reading this book. Sir Diarmot MacEnroy was ambushed and left for dead over a year ago. He was returned to his keep but doesn't have much memory of what happened to him. He has several illegitimate children and decides to marry. During the ceremony he is stunned when a very angry red-headed woman and kinsmen show up with two babies claiming he is their father and handfasted (engaged) to the woman. Ilsa Campbell MacEnroy and Diarmot met right before the ambush but Diarmot doesn't remember her at all. Her kinsmen are fiery and amusing. Diarmot fights his growing attraction to Ilsa and his memory slowly returns. The precious children love Ilsa and want her to be their mother but she is fighting Diarmot's mistrust as Diarmot's heart was broken by an evil ex several years ago. Eventually Ilsa decides to return to her kinsman because she loves Diarmot but can not live with his mistrust. After several weeks apart Diarmot realizes he loves Ilsa, finds her and tells her of his love. A funny, heartwarming story that makes you believe if you have enough love, maybe everything will turn out right.

I enjoyed this book alot. The surprise at finding out that he already has a wife and twins just as he's about to wed another. The hardtimes have just begun. At times you want to knock his block off and at others kiss him. A very good summer read.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Wee Too Long, January 17, 2012
This is the first Hannah Howell book I have read and I had a wee bit of trouble with the accents. I felt the story lacked feeling between the two characters other than their continual romps in bed. I also felt the story was a little too predictable, and did not ring true. The children were smarter than the adults. Whoa!

4.0 out of 5 stars Historical Romance for Modern Readers, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Hannah Howell was my first experience with historical romantic fiction...specifically 15th century Scotland. To say I was hooked would be a profound understatement. In the period of two weeks I bought ever book by Mrs Howell with the word Highland in the title. (a rough estimate was about 20 novels) The language was fluid but authentic yet didn't take away only added to the story. Especially the dialogue...who could have thought that words like...aye, wee, lass, bonnie and nay could be so enjoyable? While the main premise of the story is historical romance there are "wee" sprinklings of paranormal...which is my genre of choice. Mrs. Howell also does my favorite thing to find in books, characters that span several books.First as the protagonists then as secondaries in others. In the Highlands they are kinsmen or clan members. Loved it so much. Buy it you won't be sorry.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good read, June 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't understand why I don't buy all of Hannah's books they are all so entertaining....this one is no different.

The highlight of the book for me were the kids and the brothers!! The reason for my 3 stars is only due to the fact that no matter what the woman did for her man he continued to doubt her till close to the end! I understood where he was coming from but it did start to get a little tiresome. He was still lovable in his own way and the herione was amazing. A very good read!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars i love hannah howell but....., November 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Highland Groom (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
a hannah howell book never takes me more then a couple of hours to read because i can't put it down. i am sorry to say this book took me much longer because it bored me. the hero and heroine didn't seem to spend that much time together to fall in love and even after he got his memory back he still doubted her and the only thing they had going for them was sex.also, their families got on my nerves!they were always in their business! when they would have an arguement and one would follow the other to try and resolve it, here comes the family with their two cents. i have all of this author's books and i have to say i was waiting for this one. i am one of those that have to read the hole series before i read the new book so that is what i did.i went all the way to the begining, what 8 books ago? and reread them. i am disappointed Ms Howell
