Great book! Easy to read with a captivating storyline. Unexpected insights in the day-to-day life of the late 1880s bring this historical rendition of the building of the railroads in both Scotland and Canada to an enjoyable yet realistic light. Interesting to note that the main character's name is the same as the author's. Can't wait for the obvious sequel to come.

I really enjoyed this book, although the first third of the book was basically a long "set up" before it really started gaining momentum and getting interesting. Larry Stuart ovbiously did much research with this book as he does a superb job of intertwining history with a very enjoyable storyline.

I absolutely loved reading this book. I've always been interested in genealogy and history so the setting and story line in this book are truly amazing. I was drawn in from the start and held through each breath taking and breath stopping moment. The lives of Cameron, Anna and Catherine are so well written I felt like I was right there watching it unfold. I wasn't expecting the ending and only hope there will be a sequel.

This was truly a great book about A family caught up in the injustices the wealthy commit upon the pour. It shows how seeking revenge never pays. Forgiveness as taught in the Bible must prevail.even though our minds desire otherwise. Many innocent pay the price for a rich man's pride and greed, and a poor man's need for justice. Besides that this book is a great look at how the pioneers worked to develop the country.

This book was very good. I was quite interested in the story of the expansion of Canada via railroads. It was a very good look into the lives of those immigrants from Europe at that time. Cameron Stuart let a remarkable life, made some bad choices, but always came out fine. He let a very full life and had to great loves in his life. I was prepared for a happy ending, and was very surprised at what transpired. I would think that a sequel is in order about this family's descendants. I would highly recommed this book.

Loved the book....BUT, abrupt ending left me wanting more...needed either an epilogue or a preview to a sequel...SOMETHING! I did not consider this a waste of time, but would have liked more. Very interesting history and insight into the life and times of those who pioneered our great countries....but still, the ending needed more.

I always love Scottish story lines. Very pleasantly surprised that it was Stewart/Stuart main characters. I descend from Stuart's of Bute. Another tale of clan grudges involving the Campbell's.
