Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In the third novel from Miles (Into Thin Air), top mystery novelist Abigail Landry is suffering from writer's block. Seeking inspiration, she heads to a 14th-century castle in Scotland and soon finds that it's haunted by Ethan Munro and his five relatives: not ghosts, but 14th-century Scotsmen trapped between their time and the present who corporealize for one hour a day. Ethan needs Abigail's help to solve the mystery surrounding his situation and clear him of the murder of his wife in the past. As Abigail and Ethan fall for each other, they must avoid a vengeful spirit bent on killing Abigail out of jealousy, and the threat of losing each other if the mystery is finally solved. Spunky Abigail and typically gruff but warmhearted Ethan (and his rough and tumble kin) are sweetly entertaining. (June)

5.0 out of 5 stars captivating highland novel, June 3, 2008
This review is from: Highland Knight (Mass Market Paperback)
With a deadline looming and writer's block making writing a book impossible Amelia Landry is in a tough position. Fortunately her friend and assistant ZuZu has devised a plan to infuse a little inspiration in her life. She'll be spending a month in the Scottish Highlands at a supposedly haunted fourteenth-century tower house. She might just be embarking on the biggest venture of her life - and what a story she'll have to share with the world.

Laird Ethan Munro and his men have been living in limbo since a battle in the early 1300's when his new wife was murdered and he was accused of killing her. They've lived for centuries neither alive nor dead and only physically able to touch, eat, really live for one hour each twilight. Of all the people who have come to the Munro Keep, Amelia is the first who not only can see them; she's the first who's captivated by them - especially Laird Munro.

Amelia isn't one to shy away from anything mystical. As a mystery writer she loves the unexpected and part of the draw to the Highlands is the chance of an encounter with a ghostly being. She just never envisioned that she'd become involved in an ancient mystery and actually meet the very man so embroiled in legends. While she enchants them with her modern speech, clothing and outgoing personality, Laird Ethan and his warriors charm her with their curious natures, protective attitudes and fun loving acceptance of her presence in their lives. For Ethan, her presence presents a bit of a problem because he's falling for her and doesn't want to risk losing her to the sinister being who enforced this enchantment on him and his men.

Amelia's determined to help free these men from their `ghostly' existence, but is she fully prepared for the results of her meddling? Can she possibly correct the wrongs these men suffered centuries before? There's no denying that she's falling in love with Laird Munro. What will happen if they're unable to be together if/when they find a way to reverse the enchantment?

Cindy Miles completely captivated me with her newest book HIGHLAND KNIGHT. This is one of those books that blends the past and present perfectly with plenty of humor, romance, historical charm, and witty dialogue. I was glued to the storyline and loved how the characters interacted with each other. I love the Scottish burr that sends shivers down your spine as you imagine these warriors speaking the phrases - and for those of you who insist on actual Gaelic in these sorts of stories, there are even some Gaelic terms, which I have to admit are downright sexy even if I didn't fully understand the translations (and yes I did look a few of them up). Ms. Miles has officially won me over with this captivating tale and I hope to see many more of her stories in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, funny, easy read, August 16, 2008
This review is from: Highland Knight (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first Cindy Miles book and I was not disappointed. The heroine was quirky, independent and had a great sense of humor. I enjoyed her banter with the Highland men and what she brought out in her love, Ethan. One thing I wish Ms. Miles could have explained better was the ending. A little more detail on how the "wrong" was "righted" and the details on what happened after that until the conclusion of the story. Otherwise a great light read.

Amelia goes to Scotland to write her book and while staying at this old castle she comes across some enchanted knights. While she helps the knights solve the mystery of why they are enchanted she falls in love with Ethan the hunky Highlander! Her books just get better and better - if you haven't read them I would suggest picking up Into Thin Air (Signet Eclipse) and Spirited Away (Signet Eclipse) and Enjoy!
