Book Description

Faced with an abhorrent betrothal, Cailin Macmillan flees her father’s castle and quickly learns that a woman traveling alone in Medieval Scotland is an easy target for ruthless English soldiers. When Highland patriot Connor Fraser comes to her aid, his steadfast dedication to king and country is challenged by his overwhelming desire to protect Cailin—even if he must marry her to do so.

Accused of murdering one of her attackers and determined to rely on her own resourcefulness, Cailin dresses as a lad, intent on seeking refuge at the camp of Robert the Bruce. Can she elude an enemy from her past—a vindictive English lord bent on her utter demise—or will she fall prey to his carnal intent and be executed for a crime she did not commit?

Editorial Reviews

Review

A truly awesome debut effort from author B.J. Scott." Says Debra Taylor from Night Owl Romance gave it 5 stars! "... an intricately woven tale of love and honor, heartache and betrayal. The story didn't just capture my interest, it completely enthralled me. I could not put it down."

"...simply irresistible from start to finish." Says Robin, in a Rose that Rules all (5 star) review for Romancing the Book. "... The mountains, battles, castles, clans, smells, foods, people and life in the highlands makes me want to go back in time to live there as Ms. Scott had a way of bringing it to life. I loved the solid story that captured this romantic girl's heart."

"Good reading!" says Camellia in her 4 1/2 star review for Long and Short Reviews. "...No halfway measures in this story; it practically jumps off the pages with action, heart-in-the-throat close calls, and love scenes that heat the blood and sent it racing. Highland Legacy reaches out and grabs one's attention and emotions and doesn't let go until the very end. "

Highland Legacy
By: B. J. Scott

Review by: Callie Hutton

Cailin Macmillan is appalled to learn her father has arranged for her to marry a Laird thrice her age. Determined to marry for love or not at all, she flees the keep, only to be accosted by brutal English soldiers intent on raping her.

Highland patriot, Connor Fraser, comes to her defense, and escorts her back to the castle. However, upon hearing that she is being sought for the murder of the soldier Connor killed, Cailin leaves her lifelong home dressed as a lad. She follows Connor and his brothers who carry a missive to Robert the Bruce, self-proclaimed King of Scotland. It is with the Bruce that Cailin hopes to seek refuge from her would-be captors.

Connor has vowed revenge for the death of his family, and has no time or inclination to marry. Nevertheless, in order to keep Cailin safe, he declares her his wife, with the intention of an annulment when they reach their destination.
With a vindictive English lord on Cailin's trail to bring her to England for murder, Connor is torn between his steadfast dedication to king and country, his desire for Cailin, and his need to protect her from the hated English.

Highland Legacy is a book that is impossible to put down. The wealth of intrigue, horror, and historical accuracy makes for a riveting tale. The characters are well developed, the plot intricate. Ms. Scott has written a tense and spellbinding debut novel. This book is without a doubt, one of the finer stories of Medieval Scotland I've ever read.

Connor Fraser and Cailin Macmillian will capture your heart. Their passion, strength and honor will remain with you long after you've read the last page of their remarkable story. Don't miss out on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable read! January 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very good book, heaps of romance and action, and a hero and heroine who are not "over-the-top" perfect and are very likable. There are a few words that were mistakenly used - i.e. thrown for throne, but as the story was quite riveting these did not bother me.
I loved the interaction between Connor and his brothers and I wouldn't have minded meeting Bryce. I also agree I'd love to read a story on Bryce and Fallon.
The romantic conflict between Connor and Cailin had just the right touch to it that I really felt for the 2 main characters.
Don't miss this book, it is definitely worth a read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highland adventure at its finest. February 10, 2013
By bband
Format:Kindle Edition
Cailin lived while her twin brother and mother died in childbirth-and her father never forgave her for it. After all the horrible treatment she suffers at the hands of her father, he still cannot break her spirit or make her stop dreaming of finding true love, which is the only thing she'll marry for. So when her father chooses to arrange a marriage for her to a much older man to increase his standing, Cailin runs away and finds fast trouble. She also finds the man she's been waiting for, Conner Fraser.

Conner has sworn his life to the cause and to his beloved country of Scotland. He doesn't have time for a wife or children. But when he rescues the beautiful, strong-willed Cailin, will he change his mind about love?

Highland Legacy is a fast-paced, action-packed Historical Romance about love, war, and letting go of the past. B.J. Scott does an excellent job of keeping you holding on to the edge of your seat while rooting for these marvelously developed characters. This is a Highlander story you must check out!

Format:Kindle Edition
Highland Legacy is quick, well written read that makes me want to read a whole bunch more Highland romances. Go ahead, click the preview pages and you'll be clicking the one-click buy before you get to the third page. Headstrong Cailin is fabulous and Connor is not only HOT but his moral compass makes him a truly memorable hero.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend November 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
B.J. Scott's novel is richly drawn historical romance set in medieval Scotland. Scott weaves a gorgeous tapestry of an earlier time dense with possibilities despite the many complications that come with everyday life.

I found the characters especially enticing. Connor is an alpha male whose take charge attitude is challenged by Calin, the gritty heroine. Their complicated relationship develops realistically throughout the novel as complications work against them until the protagonists learn to work together.

If you like historical romance set long ago and far away, you'll enjoy Highland Legacy. The authors detailed descriptions of the region and its peoples provide the reader a detailed, authentic glimpse into a storied past.

MY BIO
With a passion for historical romance, history in general, and anything Celtic, B.J. always has an exciting work in progress. Each story offers a blend of romance, adventure, suspense, and, where appropriate, a dab of comic relief. Carefully researched historical facts are woven into each manuscript, providing a backdrop from which steamy romance, gripping plots, and vivid characters--dashing alpha heroes and resourceful, beguiling heroines you can't help but admire--spring to life. A PAN member of RWA, World Romance Writers, and Savvy Authors, B.J. also writes contemporary, paranormal, time travel, and romantic suspense.

C.S. Lewis first captivated B. J.'s imagination in the fourth grade, and her desire to write sprang from there. Following a career in nursing and child and youth work, B.J. married her knight-in-shining-armor, and he whisked her away to his castle by the sea. In reality, they share their century-old home in a small Canadian town on the shore of Lake Erie with our dogs and a cat. When she is not working at her childcare job, on her small business, or writing, you will find her reading, camping, or antique hunting.
