Great, Fun, and Um,,,,Yummy Read!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Highland Promise (Paperback)
This was actually my first Hannah Howell book. Since reading this one, I've read several others, and re-read this one two or three times! Bethia caught my attention right away. She is tiny, with one green and one blue eye, hair the color of autumn, and she sticks up for her loved ones like a 200 lb. tiger, often with no thanks. That is until one fateful day whan Sir Eric Murray happens upon her, and sees her bravely, but against unbeatably odds defending herself and her baby nephew (who she has already rescued, along with herself from being poisoned, though she wasn't in time to save her twin and twin's husband). Sir Eric sees Bethia, and though he doesn't quite recognize it, loses his heart. He has one of the handsomest faces in Scotland, and is a very good man and knight. But even though he seems big to Bethia, he is on the small side too. They start their journey together to get young laird James to Bethia's home after Eric swears he will do so. They both have much to learn, and Ms. Howell tells the tale with humor, excitment, passion, embarrassment when wanted, suspense at times, danger, big brothers, big cousins, kings, etc. all throwing their two cents in, and of course, Eric not quite trusting to tell a few details. I haven't found a book of Ms. Howell's I don't like yet, but this one remains my favorite. There is just something very charming about the insecurities of Bethia and her overcoming them. And who can resist such a handsome hero! Even when he does have a few lessons to learn? I recommend this book wholeheartedly, but not if you don't like hot under the collar love scenes! Oh boy, I enjoyed! Every word!

Enjoyable (Murray Brothers Book # 3),
By Michelle888 (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Highland Promise (Paperback)
In this third and final installment in Hannah Howell's Highland Series featuring the Murray brothers, we get to see Eric Murray finally meet his fate and also claim his rightful birthright as laird of Dubhlinn. If you have read the first two novels, HIGHLAND DESTINY and HIGHLAND HONOR, you would be familiar with Eric's parentage - that he is really a Beaton by birth, but have been fostered by Balfour and Nigel and raised as a Murray.
Now after thirteen years of petitioning the king to grant him lairdship of Dubhlinn, Eric has had enough and decided to finally face his mother's kinsmen and ask them to aid his cause. On his way there, he comes across a tiny woman bravely trying to fend off some thieves. He comes to her rescue and learns that she is running away from Sir William, who has already killed her twin sister and her husband and now wants her and her nephew, James, dead. When Bethia Drummond learns that Eric is on his way to Bealachan, which is near her home Dunnbea, she accepts his offer to escort them home. But she soon realizes that along with the danger of Sir William capturing them is the danger of what her attraction to Eric will lead. HIGHLAND PROMISE is another adventurous tale of honor, love and betrayal. As typical of Hannah Howell, her Scottish warriors are honorable men; intent on protecting the people they care about. I liked how Eric has turned out to be as great a man as his brothers are, and how protective of Bethia and James he became. His anger towards Bethia's parents' disregard for her and his need to take her away from Dunnbea is real heart-warming. And Bethia is such an endearing character. Having lived in her beautiful sister's shadow all her life and being cast aside by her own parents due to her plainness, one can't help but sympathize with her and wish her every happiness with Eric and little James. This is another good novel by Ms Howell. I would also recommend reading HIGHLAND BRIDE featuring Eric and Bethia's daughter Gillyanne, which is a highly entertaining and really hilarious read (better than this!)

A heartwarming book,
This review is from: Highland Promise (Paperback)
It was nice to read a book where the hero isn't the biggest and baddest man in the world nor is the heroine the prettiest woman that had ever walked the earth. Eric, the hero, is trying to regain his birth right, and meets, beds, and marries (in that order and during a short period of time) Bethia. She comes from a family that any good social worker or family therapist would love to work with. She also is being hunted by a madman for thwarting his plan to seize a castle. It was also fun to see characters from Ms. Howell's other books, though you will enjoy this book without reading the previous two.

Everytime Ms.Howell's books come out I rush to my store to get the newest copy. I know that I am spending my money on a book that I'll be pleased with.Too many times I have been upset with the quality of the books that I read. Ms.Howell writes the kind that once you start you can't put it down. This is one of my "keepers".

Hannah Howell was my first experience with historical romantic fiction...specifically 15th century Scotland. To say I was hooked would be a profound understatement. In the period of two weeks I bought ever book by Mrs Howell with the word Highland in the title. (a rough estimate was about 20 novels) The language was fluid but authentic yet didn't take away only added to the story. Especially the dialogue...who could have thought that words like...aye, wee, lass, bonnie and nay could be so enjoyable? While the main premise of the story is historical romance there are "wee" sprinklings of paranormal...which is my genre of choice. Mrs. Howell also does my favorite thing to find in books, characters that span several books.First as the protagonists then as secondaries in others. In the Highlands they are kinsmen or clan members. Loved it so much. Buy it you won't be sorry.

I am on my 7th Hannah Howell book-this was my first! In the last year I have become addicted to the Highlander genre through Diana Gabaldon, Monica McCarty and Paula Quinn-all great writers...then I hit a wall and could not find more books and writers that I liked and then I found Hannah Howell and her treasure trove of Highlander books...warning-they are addictive!

A MUST READ! A SCOTTISH CINDERELLA STORY!! HIGHLAND PROMISE(THE MURRAYS) BY HANNAH HOWELL!!,

This review is from: Highland Promise (The Murrays) (Paperback)
HIGHLAND PROMISE(THE MURRAYS) by Hannah Howell is an exciting historical romance set in 1444 Scotland. This is the third and final installment in the "Highland Series" but can be read as a stand alone. "Highland Destiny and Highland Honor" are the other two in this series. This is the first I have read of this series but would have to say it was a great read.It is the tale of Sir Eric and Berthia. It is an adventurous tale of love, honor, betrayal,
danger, sweet sensuality, finding a family to love you as you are,and getting what is your birthright. When Sir Eric and Berthia meet,Berthia is running with her infant nephew from a madman, who is trying to kill her and her nephew.Sir Eric offers her his protection and help to get her and the infant back to her family's castle. While,Berthia is a twin, her sister Sorchia, was more looked after and is now dead along with her husband.Berthia's parents always treated her as second best,a servant and thought her ugly. When Berthia and Sir Eric are caught in a compromising position, they are forced to marry.Which Sir Eric intended all along. For he was attracted to Berthia from the beginning and she to him.Sir Eric is also determined to gain his rightful inheritance after thirteen years of dispute.Together they learn to love, trust and follow their destiny. This is a fast paced story kind of a Cinderella story where the second born of a twin is mistreated by her parents and the only true attention her receives his from her father's men at arms. With little self confidence of her own,Sir Eric will show her she is beautiful in every way. From the top of her head to her every heart and soul.Scottish man, what is not to love.Sir Eric is handsome and tough with a heart of gold especially toward his Berthia. The plot is carry out to the very end of the story, but what adventure is story is full of and danger at every corner.A MUST READ. This book was received from the publisher and details can be found at Zebra, published by Kensington Publishing Corp and My Book Addiction and More.

The book was in excellent condition. Arrived on time.
Very good story. I enjoy all of Hannah Howell's Highland books. Just wish she didn't have to include so much explicit sex.

I've read 25 of Ms Howell's books and this one is a good story if predictable.
Most of her books are very exciting and I always look forward to them. But,I'm so tired of seeing misspelled words. It's very distracting! Surely the editing could be improved! |
