More About the Author

USA TODAY bestselling, and award-winning author and creator of award-winning teddy bears who have found homes all over the world including Australia, Switzerland, China, and Russia, and a retired officer of the US Army Reserves, I love to plant trees and flowers and if I could, I'd turn all the deserts green. Time travels are my favorite read, although I love to read most anything, and the Bourne series, Romancing the Stone, Sixth Sense, Legend, The Princess Bride, Stardust, Inkheart, LOTR, and tons of other movies are my favorites.

I love to research, to make urban fantasy worlds real, to bring a little of the paranormal into our world. Even in "Winning the Highlander's Heart" the heroine feels she is cursed and she has second sight. But I try to do it in a way that feels real, and not fantasized. :) Currently, I'm working on book 2 of the new jaguar shifter series, but still am working on wolf book number 12 and 13! So more hunky wolves to come! A SEAL in Wolf's Clothing has just released.

There is just something about the way this author writes that appeals to me so much. I have enjoyed every book in this series so far (this is the third). Her style is on the quirky side but very entertaining.

Seeing as I am the first to review I'll give a brief summary. Lady Alana sees ghosts (a bit like 6th Sense) and is about to be betrothed to Hoel MacDonald. She receives a message to visit a sick member of her clan and she goes alone (through a set of particular circumstances) to see this woman, as she is her clan's healer. She is also her uncle's heir, he is the Laird and anyone she marries will eventually become the Laird of the Cameron clan. She ends up on MacNeill lands where she is seen by our hero Dougald and taken back to the MacNeill Laird, James. Dougald has always been gorgeous and I loved him in The Accidental Highland Hero. He is even better in this book.

Dougald has the reputation of being a rake but it is exaggerated in my opinion, he is just such a lovable guy and he falls for the h instantly. James decides they need to marry because she was compromised by being alone with him and his men for 2 days. And from there our story goes on to solve the mystery of her dad's death as well as her brothers.

If you are a real romantic like me and like the H and H to marry first, and if you like that there is no big misunderstanding and simply a lovely story, then this is the book for you. If you haven't read the other books, you don't need to but you are missing out. The first is Winning the Highlander's Heart and the second is The Accidental Highland Hero. All three books are in my favourites folder on my Kindle!

The plot was good and kept me guessing, but it was a wee bit convoluted: was it the MacNeills? The MacIversons? The McDonalds? The Camerons? The McDonalds and the MacNeills? The MacIversons and the Camerons? All of them? What did Ward have to do with it? What about the hairy guy whose name I can't spell or pronounce? How about the sheep herders? Was Landon in cahoots with one of the clans? Or Ward? His lazy sons? What about the kitchen maid? The heroine's maid? Was it some of each? Who saved the heroine (read entire list above again)? Then there were editing problems (Aye, when it should have been I, for example). Perhaps worse, the heroine had entire conversations with dead people. I know, I know, this is fiction, but it was just stupid to me. I like my fiction to be at least plausible. LONG conversations with this dead person and that dead person. I can accept a character seeing the spirits of the dead and gleaning clues from them, but this was ridiculous. At one point, I thought, ok, if I were standing by listening to this, I WOULD think she needed to be restrained or given an early version of Lithium. By skimming through portions, I got through it. If you can suspend belief and read carefully (I had to go back a time or two after a "What...?!" moment), you might enjoy it. I am not the least bit tempted to read another of the author's books, though. Just saying.

Very convoluted story about murder and ghosts and heroine Alana who has a gift of being able to see ghosts. All very far fetched and all over the place as far as story line goes. Kept coming back to it hoping it would improve....sadly it didn't.

I received this in audio format. It was great. The narrator actually was able to deepen her voice during the male parts that it almost seemed to be a man. The story was very funny. Awesome!

I really enjoyed the story. Some characters are full and lovable and some are untrustworthy. It takes you to the heroines young, adulthood and into her gifts. It made me laugh more than a few times.

From start to finish, this book was more of a mystery/who done it.
Yes it had a Lady and a Rake in it, but their love affair was very the second or maybe even third story line going on.
To be honest the cover of the book was much more romantic and sexy then the whole book.
This book isn't for someone who wants sex parts or to partake in a couple falling in love.
The author was very shy when it came to the love making.
The couple had one or two conversations and boom, they were in love.
As far as the story itself, it was decent enough, not great, but kept you guessing.
I did find it odd, that the characters had to explain laws and rules of the time period to other characters......shouldn't all the characters know the laws and rules of their time?
Could of done without all the detail of the food...or maybe she could of reiterated multiple more times how Alana wiggled in Dougald's lap and felt his "staff". It was like the author was trying to be "sexy", but it really came off as immature and silly.
And the very first time they made love on their wedding night...he said "We can keep our clothes on".......that cheapened the experience immediately...then he just rolled off of her, after what seemed to be 10 seconds.

I give it three stars, cause it is labeled a romance, but the cover of the book was all it had.

I didn't realize it was the third in a group when I got it but it doesn't matter you can read out of order without a problem. Love the characters. Won't tell more but always love a love story with a quirky funny twist and this one really has it. Couldn't put it down.
