I am a fan of Hannah Howell's and have read all of her Murray Family Scottish romances. This one was far different than the rest. I thought the story very good but at one point found myself thinking WHAT ARE THEY DOING? At that point in the book I would have rated the book only 3 stars and was a bit disappointed. I kept reading a long and the story turned again for me. The last quarter of the book was sooo good that I raised my star rating to 4 in a half. I just loved the way Hannah ended this book and wished all books could end as well.

Another good Highland novel from Howell. Hero Sir Tormand Murray is suspected of the gruesome murders of his former lovers. Desperate to find out information on the killer/killers before they strike again, he seeks help from the Witch, Morainn Ross. She has dreams and visions of the past, present and future. Shunned by society Morainn lives in a small cottage on the outskirts of town where many, although wary of her gift, come to seek Morainn's help. These visions are what Tormand is hoping will lead him to the murders before the tide turns against him and he is hung. Only Tormand doesn't realize that by involving Marainn, a woman he has come to care a great deal for, he unwittingly puts her in the murders path.

This book is stand alone and not really part of a series. Although Tormand is brother to Gillyanne (Highland Bride (Zebra Historical Romance)) and foster brother to James (Highland Wolf) both are only mentioned in passing.

The writing and character development are, as usual, very good. As with her last book the plot tends to be a little more violent then Howell's previous offerings but still engaging. The villain is a bit cartoonish and the reasoning for the murders was weak unless you count insanity. But most importantly I did find womanizer Tormand to be a delectable highland hero despite the fact that he had a problem in the past of keeping his pants on. It was fun reading about his downfall.;) And even though Morainn is your typical doe-eyed virgin lass her character's visions were a highlight romantically and for the action plot. Just enough suspense/sexual tension to keep the reader flipping the pages.

So another satisfying highlander novel. Not my favorite but a good comfort read.

Tormand Murray's past is coming back to haunt him. Many of the women he has bedded in the past are being brutally killed. Proving his innocence is going to be difficult, especially when he wakes in the bed of one of the slain women. Morainn Ross was exiled years ago for being a witch. Lately her visions have shown her a man she believes to be innocent, accused of slaying women. With few places to find help, Tormand turns to Morainn hoping her visions will lead him to the real killer. Once he sets eyes on Morainn, Tormand's wandering eyes cease to wander. Morainn doesn't fool herself believing a man like Tormand will ever want her for anything more than her body, but her traitorous heart wants him anyway. If they don't find the killer soon, Tormand may hang and Morainn may be the next victim, before Tormand has the chance to prove that he is changing his ways.

Tormand is the sinner of the Highlands. He leaves a trail of well-loved women in his wake. Morainn`s feelings regarding Tormand's colorful past with the lasses are definitely valid, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and Morainn's wants Tormand. Highland Sinner's tale of suspense and gruesome imagery is a well-done modern suspense story in a historical setting.
