Best yet!, October 21, 1999
This review is from: Highland Spirits (Mass Market Paperback)
Michael Mingary, Earl of Kintyre, was about to lose all his lands to Sir Renfrew Campbell because his deceased father left him with a huge debt. As the deadline drew near, he agreed to his sister's urging of traveling to London in hopes of arranging a marriage with her and Lord Charles MacCrichton.
Penelope MacCrichton had known the ghost since she was but a child. As she grew, she compared men to her ghost and they all came up lacking. When she met Michael Mingary, she was shocked to se he was her ghost's spitting image! Michael even had a deerhound that looked the same as the ghost's companion! Since it was apparent her brother did not care for Bridget, Pinkie took a chance on her heart and offered Michael another option.
*** Restack your "keeper" shelf because this one deserves a place of honor! I am a fan of Amanda Scott's writing and feel this is her best to date! In fact, I plan to search my book club in hopes of getting a copy in hard back. A riveting story with more than one plot and keeping the reader glued to the pages! ***

Good, but not Great, March 13, 2004
This review is from: Highland Spirits (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book with the thought that it would be a cool ghost/love story as it's acclaimed to be. However, the ghost only appears at the beginning and the end of the book and only talked about in between.
The love interests weren't even introduced to each other until page 102, which made the reading of the first hundred pages rather dry. While a lot of it accounted for the set up of the plot, I was a little disappointed that I had to wait so long for the hero and heroin to meet up.
There is not much passion between the two characters. They meet each other and are very "proper" with each other, and the only passion is on their wedding night. However, this passionate scene seems a little out of place with the propriety throughout the rest of the book. The love scene just didn't seem to fit, and I was actually surprised that it was in there. I half expected the author to skip right over the wedding night to the next day due to the previous lack of passion between the characters. Their first kiss was at their wedding, for heaven's sake!
The ghost story is a side plot to the main one, and that disappointed me as well, as I love ghost/love stories, and was hoping for more interaction with the ghost and Michael's dreams. I understood why Pinkie saw the ghost, but I didn't understand why Michael had his dreams... I was hoping for a cool plot twist such as he was the re-incarnation of the ghost since he seemed to resemble him, but no such luck.
All in all, this *could* have been an A+ story if it wasn't so stuffy, if there was more passion, and if there was more intrigue with the ghost story. As it stands, I give this book a C+.

a great book i dont know who wouldn't like it except to critize it. The book was one of my favorites an i have been searching for this book for months after my friend let me borrow her copy. I was fascinated when i started the book an when my dad got me a kindle for christmas i wanted this book to be downloaded to it. amanda scott is a real artistic person adding everything in there cause she brings out what everyone would think of them with out the clothes. The guy's sister acts like a brat but in the end realizes she is kinda of a dope. this book gets five stars from me.They should make this book kindle avaiable cause i want to re-read it. I've read to many books in my life to keep track but i would more than love this book to be downloaded to my kindle.
