buyer beware,
This review is from: Highland Wedding (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a good book with a captivating storyline but then i would expect no less from Hannah Howell. The main characters are well rounded and realistic. They bring to life the story. Helping this is the fact that the minor characters are vivid as well.
However, just a word of caution for those of you who have read Hannah's previous books - THIS IS A REPRINT - it was previously entitled Promised Passion.

I own all of Hannah Howell's books and love most of them. This is not one I loved. It started out interesting as the two main characters end up getting married. The night before their wedding the heroine sneaks into the grooms room to tell him her terrible secret so that he can prevent the marriage if he wants to. Her secret is a Dolly Parton type chest that immediately inflames the hero and causes them to have their wedding night the night before the wedding. The scene where hero and heroine are caught in bed the next morning is very funny.
Unfortunately the plot is not strong enough to keep the book going strong and it lost my interest. I did finish it but it was definitely not her best work. I will still buy her books and I am looking forward to "Highland Wolf" her next book due out soon.

First let me say I love Hannah Howell; hers are among the books I reread regularly, just to visit with the wonderful characters she's created. I know the criticisms...much of her work is the same plot reworked again and again, but that's true of most romance authors with any longevity. The fact is, it's her people that make it work.
Unfortunately, it's her people that are lacking here. I understand this is a reworking of an earlier book, maybe that accounts for its lack of punch. I certainly liked the character of Ian McLagan in "His Bonnie Bride" (he was the brother of the hero). But in this, his own story, the spark is just missing. I enjoyed catching up with Tavis, Storm and the rest of their families, but this is a trend I've seen in too many recent books (Mine til Midnight comes immediately to mind), where the intrusion of much loved characters from earlier books seems to be intended to divert the reader from the lack of substance in the current book. I know not every book can be a home run; still, even the weaker books from her earlier series (including surprisingly enough the wonderful character of Payton Murray, whom HH took great pains through several books to make a fascinating character, fell flat in his own book) were rewarding in their own ways. This one isn't awful, it's just sort of there, like Everest. And for the first time, one of HH's books will go into the "don't read again" pile. I'm hoping that "Highland Wolf", James' story will make up for the lack here. Again, HH created a wonderfully realized, fully dimensional character in James, Gillyanne's adopted brother, who was such a presence in "Highland Bride", one of my favorites. Truthfully, anyone but Hannah Howell would have gotten less than 3 stars for this one, I'm afraid.

Very Enjoyable Scottish Romance!,

If you like Julie Garwood novels then you're going to like Hannah Howell's books very much! This particular story is about a young woman sent to court to find a husband and ends up finding one man in particular that strikes her interest but who isn't at all interested in her or marriage for that matter. Though child-like in appearance he does find her attractive and at the kings stern suggestion concedes to the marriage. Whilst living at court for a while together as man and wife they are subject to scandal, intrigue, and violence and eventually decide to go back to his home to stay until minor repairs can be made to their new home not far from his family home. The story continues in the country setting where more unpleasant incidents occur as well some very pleasant connections made between our heroine and hero. Needless to say our hero is a much tormented character in need of a devoted heroine whom posses a quiet patience in order to come through for him in the end. Due to his lack attention and some misbehavior on his part we learn just how understanding and enduring this woman is and how she loves her husband very much.
I definitely recommend this book, it's a real page-turner.

Can't like a book if you can't stand the hero!,
This review is from: Highland Wedding (Highland Brides) (Kindle Edition)
Wow! I don't know if I have ever disliked a hero as much as Iain. His wife, who hated him, died in childbirth two years ago cursing him with her last breathe. Since then, he has not touched a woman. Scotland's King tells him to marry young Islaen, a petite young woman. He is mad and determined not to get her with child or to love her. This is not so new to romances, but what agrevated me was his lack of fedility. Mere weeks after marrying his wife, his old love comes back into his life and he makes it clear he is thinking of bedding her. He even knows his friend wants to bed his wife, but he isn't too concerned! He almost gives in but decides to be faithful at the last second after making out with her in her room! I do not like this type of hero. He goes two years without and then has a willing wife that he can't keep his hands off but it still is not enough! What the heck! If that is not enough, he stays gone and away almost the entire novel. Islaen lets him walk all over her. She doesn't yell at him or ask that he stay. There is nothing in this novel to make up for the terrible way the hero treats the heroine for all but the last twenty pages of this book, maybe less. He was weak, annoying, and completly undeserving of love. Save your money and go for a different highland themed book. This one is a dud.

Scottish Love Story,
By
This review is from: Highland Wedding (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is about Iain and Islaen who are married early in the book. Islaen is in love with Iain while Iain is just attracted to Islaen but fights this attraction. Iain has two enemies after him that makes the story interesting. Also and old love that is an aggraviating witch. Islaen is very tiny woman in stature. But strong in personality. She has eleven brothers who are very protective of her. And a father that thinks the world of her. But she wants this marriage so they allow her to marry. But warn Iain not to break her heart. I enjoyed it. This story is a re-issue. It was previously issued titled "Promised Passion"....

Highland Wedding,
This review is from: Highland Wedding (Paperback)
I don't know what the rest of you were reading, but this book was really hard to understand. I simply could not bare to finish it completely, what with the accents and everything, it just took the feeling out of the story. It started out okay, and held my interest, but then it just sort of plopped somewhere. I felt like Islaen had no depth to her personality. Also, Meg was really annoying at times. There was so many men in this story, and only like four women. It just didn't seem interesting anymore about halfway through.
For the life of me I tried to read the love scenes, but the eroticism was overshadowed by their talking about stupid little things. This just wasn't Howell's best.

this is the first flat out bad Hannah Howell book I've ever read. Normally I enjoy her romances. Some are great, some are fun, some are just good or even average. Highland Wedding was absolutely awful. Actually, it was pretty unreadable. I gave up a third of the way through.

I liked this book. Nothing too spectacular, but was enjoyable. Passed the time. Very much exciting and entertaining read. Iain MacLagan and Islaen MacRoth are memorable characters. I recommend this book. Plenty of steam for you.

I think I have read too many Hannah Howell books. They are all alike, the little women and this deformed breasts on a small body crap, I read the exact same thing in one of her other books, big breasts, small body, hid them because she was ashamed, same-o same-o and so stupid. There is always, travel from point a to point b, and always someone after both hero and heroine. It just all reads the same, just different characters. I have to read a lot of books in between a Hannah Howell, or I would be bored to death with the same stories she mass produces, with the same outcomes and no surprises. I didn't like the hero in this book at all either because, I was not as forgiving as the heroine on his cheating, it didn't end up in bed (but he was willing to)it only didn't because he realized that he might not be able to have his cake and eat it to and he saw a glimmering of what she really was. But the next temptation he follows up on, might be too sweet to pass up, who knows. Once a cheater always a cheater, when the right one comes along. Why do I keep reading Hannah Howell, well, I got them cheap, a whole stack of them. I am sure glad I didn't pay full price for any of them!
