The only issue I have with this book was that it was focused only on American breeders. And it even missed one of the major American breeders in it's little bios. But the chapters on GROOMING are invaluable to any novice Westie owner and breeder. If you just gotten your first Westie you'll learn more about grooming here than any breeder will share with you. So get the book.

The most indepth, comprehensive book about the West Highland White Terrier available today. This book is a must for the library of the breed lover. The historical lineage of the breed, as well as the sketches of those who've made an impact in the breed in the 20th century, is beyond compare. Ms. Gentry offered something for everyone from the pet lover to the most serious dog show owner. I appreciated the separate chapters that are written by experts in the fields of grooming, performance events, and health. You will find something on every page that will help you and your beloved Westie!

This book is an excellent reference in all areas of owning a Westie.....superb tips on grooming, showing and just all around enjoyment of your West Highland White Terrier. Ms. Gentry definetly knows this breed. A must have for every westie enthusiast!!

A book that informs and entertains while taking an indepth look at the Westhighland White Terrier. Topics ranging from grooming techniques to breed lineages are addressed. This book provides valuable information for the enthusiastic pet owner as well as the dedicated breeder. Superior pictures and illustrations. Ranks right along with "A New Owner's Guide to West Highland Terriers" by Dawn Martin and "Westies from Head to Tail" by Ruth Faherty. I will be purchasing this book as a gift for friends who are fanciers of the breed.

Filled with everything about the breed from A to Z! By far the best one yet. A must have, and read for anyone who is thinking about owning or now owns a West Highland White! Way to Go Daphne Gentry!

This is not a quick overview of Westies. It is an in depth discussion, including a great deal of history and current breed concerns. Especially valuable are the detailed grooming charts. Very useful for those with a more than passing interest in Westies.

This book is almost entirely fascinated with lineage and other dog show concerns. If you have a Westie as a pet and need a health, training, have fun with your dog book, this isn't the one I would recommend. If you DO order it, maybe you'll get the one i sent back . . . .

Fantastic, i am really enjoying this book, the Chapter on the Stripping for Show has been very helpful....so glad i found this book.....

Ms. Gentry's book follows in the tradition of John T. Marvin's seminal work "The Complete West Highland White Terrier". Most readible is the coverage of breed history and those in the US who have made significant contributions to the development of this most congenial terrier breed. This volume is not an exploitive, commercial piece for breed newcomers, but rather it provides solid information for all those with serious breed interest.

This is a welcome addition to the library of Westie books. Positive features are the depth of detail of prominent Westies and the history of the breed, some snippets of which I had never read before (reflecting the author's background as an historian). Be warned: no colour piccies, so not as visually stunning as Nicholas' book. Given the detail of the Westie's US achievements, it is quite incredible that there is no mention whatever of the greatest Westie of them all winning BIS at the undisputed greatest show: the incomparable Moonpilot winning at Crufts. In this sense, the title is a little misleading: this is a book primarily for US afficianados.
