This review is from: Highlander: Counterfeit [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The twisted thinking of Horton returns to "get Duncan." His revenge is through resurrecting Tessa by surgically changing another woman to her exact image. The enjoyment of the plot is enriched by the portrayal of Duncan's fight between his heart's yearning and his mind knowing she can not be Tessa. The subplot also sets Richie against Duncan in a difference of opinion. The theme seems to be that what you see is not necessarily what you think it is. In flashback, an immortal saves Duncan's head and then they spend the evening drinking together with Duncan getting sloshed to the gills. Then his new "friend" tries to behead him while he is sleeping it off. Richie has a "friend" that saves his life but is really part of Horton's plot to destroy Duncan. Duncan has his own struggles trying to avoid emotional tangles with Tessa look-a-like Lisa. Excellent story. Emphasis on characters and not so much on physical battles. There is an interesting montage of Duncan's memory of how he met Tessa and their life together. Frankly, I don't care for such sexually explicit scenes. They are not just hinted at and they leave very little to the imagination. I feel those scenes would make it R rated in the movies. That is a personal opinion which, sad to say, is in a minority these days.
