Best One Yet!,

This review is from: A Highlander's Destiny (Daughters of the Glen, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
A Highlander's Destiny is a paranormal romance, an enchanting tale of suspense and love. Everyone in Destiny Noble's life has abandoned her and the only family she has left is her younger sister. When the Nuadian Fae kidnap her sister, Destiny uses her dreams to locate her, which leads her to Jesse Coryell, a member of Dallyn's Elite Guard.
Jesse Coryell owns Coryell Enterprises that specializes in tracking down captives held against their will. He takes on Destiny as an unofficial client and promises to help her locate her sister. He is used to calling the shots during the investigations but Destiny refuses to be a docile client with her sister's life in the balance. Jesse finds her stubbornness intriguing and dangerous. Women have wanted him for his unlimited back account, but not Destiny. She wants him to trust in her visions to help her locate her sister - something that he is not prepared to do. His lack of faith in her abilities causes her to follow her own path even when it leads her into danger forcing Jesse to rescue her. Melissa Mayhue's enchanting tale continues to delve deeper into her world of the Mortal and Fae that captures the reader's interest and asking for more. Her twists of internal and external conflicts and fast pace make it hard to put this one down. She brings out the vulnerability in her hero, heroine and villain so that they become alive on the page.

Mayhue does it again,

This review is from: A Highlander's Destiny (Daughters of the Glen, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I wish all authors had the talent and used the care Melissa Mayhue does. I'm reading her newest, A Highlander's Destiny, now, and her characters never "forget" who they are. The reader never gets confused or thrown out of a scene with trite phrases or yuck. Her research is amazing; plots are cohesive and riveting; and someone with a Scottish accent doesn't suddenly use inappropriate slang. I don't need to read the back flap to know if I'll buy one of her books. Every one has been a gem, and she's got another coming out next month (February 2010). I don't have to wade through gratuitous sex scenes that don't fit the story line--what's there fits the plot line. She doesn't fall back on my dreaded "oh no" phrases: a dollop of anything; not knowing where he leaves off and she begins; or a feeling 'older than time,' to name a few. I sometimes wonder if even the best authors have these words and phrases on a little flash card taped to their writing desks to throw in when they run out of fresh words. Mayhue hasn't disappointed me in five books. I only wish she'd republish in audio format as well. I'd buy them all again.

For some reason or another, Destiny Noble has always had visions/dreams while sleeping. When her sister disappears, she dreams of a man that can help her find her sister when everyone else writes her sister off as a runaway.
It's been a while since I read a book from this series. I'm having a difficult time jumping into it and don't remember some of the characters clearly anymore. I enjoyed the books in the series when I read them a while ago, but for one reason or another, this book didn't live up to how I remember the other books in the series. I don't remember as many "technical" explanations (they were a bit dry for me) about the faeries in the other books, but I could be mistaken. I did enjoy this book though. The main character had great chemistry even if Destiny was a bit weak/whiny at the beginning. I would definitely recommend reading at least a few of the previous books in the series before attempting this one. The storyline is good, but knowing the characters and different kinds of magic that were introduced in the other books adds so much more to the story. I wish there was so much more to the ending, but I guess that's what supposed to get me to get my hands on the next book. =)

You've got to be kidding!,

This book was written for a 12 year old unless you count the expletives she included to make it sound like an adult book. Very poor characterization -- could care less about Desiny & Jesse. They were 2 dimensional cardbourd cut-outs. Writing was very poor. Don't bother.

This book is not as good as the others in the series. Jesse is such a neat character and it would've been nice to have him find someone with some spirit. Destiny cried, wept, and was scared through most of the book. Or, she "lifted her chin" and had "pouty lips" to show her lack of trust. Destiny had the personality of a dish rag. I was so frustrated with the story - thinking it would get better... it never did. Oh well... the other books in the series are very good and a great escape for an afternoon or evening of reading. This story, however, could be skipped!

So far I have read all in this series. Not sure what happened in this latest one. I really did not feel connected to these characters at all. Normally when I have read similar comments I would roll my eyes and think that some comments were too picky. Now I get it. From our previous meetings w/Jesse in the past stories I would never have imagined him falling for such a simpering, weak woman. Granted her sister was kidnapped but throughout the whole book she's crying... then she gets SOME balls and then back to slobbering again. I could not buy into Jesse falling for one such as her and so the whole story felt contrived. I luved stories 1-4 and am hoping #6 will be more in line with them.

Surprised after other reviews,

I was really suprised how much I liked this book because the other reviews were not so great. I thought Jesse was an exceptional character as a modern day Highlander saving the day. While other reviews stated they didn't like Destiny I felt a connection with her and understood how carrying the weight of your family could cause you act the way she does. After everyone in her family has "left" her she has trust issues and I got that. I thought this was one of the better books in the series that had far more action in it than the others. I really liked the book and would definitely recommend it.

I have loved all of Mayhue's books and this one did not disappoint! I loved that Jesse finally found someone and I had empathy for both main characters. Can't wait for the next book!

A Highlander's Destiny Daughters of the Glen, Book 5,
This review is from: A Highlander's Destiny (Daughters of the Glen, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Nuadian Fae have discovered a long-forgotten path to dark powers and all that stands between them and the helpless Mortal world is Jesse Coryell. Another failed romance and Jesse's disillusioned. Even spending time in the Realm of Faerie and training as a member of the Elite Guard hasn't made him happy. Something he can't identify is missing in his life and according to his magically gifted niece, Rosie MacKiernan, that something is his destiny. When Jesse intercepts a letter from Destiny Noble, a young woman desperately searching for her missing younger sister, life and destiny collide. Not even Destiny's Faerie heritage and her ability to see glimpses of the future can protect the pair from the unknown evils they'll face. But, if they're lucky, the magic of True Love just might save them both before it's too late... I enjoyed this book, just as I enjoyed each and every prior book in this series. So worth reading .

I've read all of her books but this one I didn't really like. Not only could I not get into the story, I couldn't get into the characters at all. I can't really put my finger on it and I'm still trying to figure out why. I was very apathetic about the entire book. It seemed so different from all of her other ones. I still think she's a great writer, just missed the mark with this book.
