Book Description

Not a day has gone by that Ewan McTavish, the Viscount Sethwick, hasn't dreamed of the beauty he danced with two years ago. He's determined to win her heart and make her his own. Heiress Yvette Stapleton is certain of one thing; marriage is risky and, therefore, to be avoided. At first, she doesn't recognize the dangerously handsome man who rescues her from assailants on London's docks, but Lord Sethwick's passionate kisses soon have her reconsidering her cynical views on matrimony. On a mission to stop a War Office traitor, Ewan draws Yvette into deadly international intrigue. To protect her, he exploits Scottish law, declaring her his lawful wife—without benefit of a ceremony. Yvette is furious upon discovering the irregular marriage is legally binding, though she never said, "I do." Will Ewan's manipulation cost him her newfound love?

From the Author

Highlander's Hope was inspired by a single scene;  the Banbury Inn scene where Ewan finds Yvette asleep in his chamber. The entire novel was written around that scene.

Originally, it was titled "Love Hath No Fear" and then, "Love's Fearless Embrace."  Obnoxious, I know!

I cut the manuscript from 156,000 words to just over 85,000. Can you imagine?  Gads!

I hope you enjoy meeting Ewan and Yvette. Several of the characters in the story get their own books. Vangie and Ian are in The Viscount's Vow which releases from Soul Mate Publishing in the fall of 2013, and Adaira and Roark are featured in The Earl's Enticement (May  2014).

Stay tuned for the six-book saga about Ewan's other siblings and cousins.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY MARVELLOUS!! September 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
From beginning to end, this novel is absolutely marvellous! When Yvette flees Boston to escape her stepbrother, Edgar, and his vicious attacks, she hopes to contact her solicitor and obtain her fortune. Instead, as soon as she is on English soil, she finds herself being followed and chased, only to be rescued by a stranger, a stranger with familiar eyes; the eyes from her dreams. Desperate to remain out of Edgar's grasp, Yvette finds herself under the protection of Ewan McTavish, the man of her dreams. However as events occur that require a seemingly fictitious betrothal and then marriage, Yvette finds herself in a true marriage based on Scottish Law. Can Yvette look past her anger and sense of betrayal and see the love and devotion that Ewan has for her?

I found this novel by Collette Cameron to be a must read! Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It has every element I've come to crave in a historical romance: passion, drama, suspense, and romance. Yvette's determined, yet understanding nature makes her truly lovable, and Ewan's traditional Scottish protective and passionate nature makes his character simply outstanding. As Ewan was desperately trying to protect Yvette from the people who wished to harm her, I couldn't help but admire the sense of kinship and camaraderie that Ms. Cameron was able to portray, as 200 of Ewan's clansmen showed up to a public house to help escort Yvette to the safety of Ewan's estate. A remarkably well written novel by Ms. Cameron and I look forward to reading many more, especially the other novels in this series, The Viscount's Vow, Vangie and Ian's story and The Earl's Enticement, Adaira and Rory's story.

I really enjoyed this eARC provided to me by the author. I felt it was hard to put down as well. One really comes to enjoy these characters and wants the best for them. We want a happy resolution to all matters.

I too would not have thought of this as a typical "Highlander" novel as mentioned in the other reviews. It does meet the definition I believe with the traditions and loyalty of described actions as well as Ewan's family. It truly is London meets American meets Scottish type flavoring.

I was enamored by Yvette's personality. Her father having amassed a fortune working for the East India Docks has shown her quite the life. She is protected but extraordinarily educated and speaks several (6-8 I lost track) languages. As mentioned she also knows how to use a knife and a gun to protect herself. All of these skills come into play. She is naive in the love department which is fine. The sensual dreams are a bit much at times and I think the chest heaving on the 1st page was a record for me personally. smiles....but very believable. One can't help but fall in love with this young woman due to her circumstances in life. She's in a horrible carriage accident early in life which takes her mother's life. Her father and step-mother who she is close to die suspiciously after an evening gala. She alludes evil men and survives attempts on her life. She is stuck with a horrible woman on her very long voyage across the Atlantic which we can all commiserate with (Mrs. Pettigrove keep your distance).

Yvette is caught in some very awkward moments especially with Ewan McTavish and so of course the poor dear has a hard time figuring out who to trust. Does Ewan like every other man only want her for her wealth?

5.0 out of 5 stars A romantic and suspenful read May 20, 2013

Highlander's Hope delivers a love story with the intrigue of spies and danger added in. Yvette, running from a dangerous suitor lands in the path of Ewan. Add a fake engagement and a traitor in the war office and the suspense rises. The chemistry between Yvette and Ewan was delightful and I really enjoyed the added twists and turns of the mystery.

This novel was almost two separate stories. It begins full of political intrigue, murder, and danger.....then it suddenly mellows into a luke-warm love story......then the last few pages wrap up the initial conflicts. Kind of odd, really---but still enjoyable. I give it more a 3 1/2 star rating than a 4, but I'm rounding up.

Yvette is a very wealthy young woman fleeing for her life. Ewan is Highland laird (who also is in service to the crown as an intelligence officer) that is tasked with protecting her and uncovering a dastardly plot full of spies, murder, and treason. Caught in a compromising postiion, the two pretend to be betrothed as they travel to a safer place.

Then they pretend to be married. One problem--if you say you are wed in front of witness in Scotland, ye be wed.

Ewan is thinking it's not such a bad thing---now he has to convince Yvette. And keep her safe. Yvette wants no marriage without a declaration of love. Otherwise, how does she know the man loves her and not her inheritance?

I did like this story, but I was confused now and then. First Ewan is a proper peer of the realm....then he is a brogue-spouting Highland laird with massive relatives in plaids. Which is he? He's almost like two separate characters mashed awkwardly into one. Not that I have a problem with Highlanders.....I much prefer Ewan the Scot. Yvette is hard to root for at times, but ultimately she grows on you. Over all, this is an enjoyable read, however perplexing at times.
