Veronica Wolff has a way of drawing the reader into her stories, of putting them right there in the action. And this one is no different. She paints a vivid picture of the beauty of the Highlands in the seventeenth century, as well as the danger. I loved Felicity from the beginning. She is vulnerable and scared, but at the same time she handles everything that is thrown at her with strength and good humor. Rollo is the perfect, imperfect hero. He is every woman's dream man, even with his physical impairment he is a true warrior. With Rollo's strength and patience and Felicity's constant questions, this is a story that has it all: adventure, betrayal, and even a little witchcraft. These two very different, colorful characters, along with Rollo's unusual group of friends and family, truly make this a book worth reading. With everything against them and hundreds of years between them, this is a story that could answer the question, can love truly conquer all? I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an exceptional read, by an exceptional writer. - Sandra

In present day San Francisco, Felicity under the name "Mellow Yellow" is taken aback when she seeks her perfect match with an on-line dating service; only the response is she has no matches. Still stunned with being declared "unmatchable", Felicity plays with a tarot deck.

The next thing she knows is she is in 1658 where she meets Highlander William Rollo; as he rescues someone form the Tower. Having met time travelers before, William is not shocked with the displaced woman; however he is stunned with his attraction as he wants her and by her seductive behavior he knows she wants him. However, this is not a safe era for an out of time soul mate to be in Scotland as witch hunters roam the Highlanders seeking to burn travelers from the future; while his efforts to return the legitimate monarch to the throne adds to the danger. Still both want her to stay with him for eternity.

The latest twenty-first century female battling a seventeenth century Highlander is an engaging gender war as each wants one another, but neither believes they have all the time in the world to pursue that attraction. William has met futuristic females before (see Warrior of the Highlands) so is not quite bewildered by Felicity's equality attitude. On the other hand she adapts rather easily considering the culture shock. With real people and events to anchor down time and place, Veronica Wolff provides a wonderful time travel romance.

While I have read many other books by Veronica Wolff and count her as one my favorite author's I can not get past page 50 on this book. I have read a couple time travel books (The Outlander is very good) but this one just did not resonate. I could not quite get past the notion that the herione is transported back in time and doesn't seem to have a moment's pause as to what that actually means. She isn't freaked out - just has this belief she was sent for her 'viking'. And if you are going to have a Viking - don't set the book in Scotland; pick a time period and keep it straight. This just did not feel like Veronica Wolff book to me and gave up waiting for the story to get interesting.
