Full disclosure: I happen the think that John Raitt had a truly outstanding voice. Inasmuch as he never had the following of, say, a Bing Crosby or a Frank Sinatra, I suspect that my opinion is something of a minority opinion. No doubt some buyers will enjoy this album as much as I have, which is immensely; and others won't rate it so highly. For whatever reason, Raitt never recorded many songs; and that comparative lack of exposure didn't help his career. If you're too young to have remembered Raitt at his best, and you take a chance on this album, you may find that you've made a real discovery.
For those who aren't already familiar with Raitt as a singer, his singing style was definitely not that of a crooner (e.g., Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Perry Como, others); but was close to operatic. I make that comment so a buyer not familiar with the singer will have some idea of what to expect.
Originally we had the LP of Under Open Skies. We wore it out from playing it too too many times but we never tired of it. Anyone who hasn't heard it does not know how great Raitt was. Hope this copy doesn't wear out too soon.
